Tudor is owned by Rolex and made by Rolex. Tudor watches mirrored the Rolex line for many years, with different movements (many models used ETA movements) than found in the Rolex line. Some of the older Tudors even wore genuine Rolex parts. They also offered a few models that weren't available in a "look-a-like" Rolex model. Now, many of the Tudor models look nothing like their Rolex counterparts. Tudor also makes many of their watches with quartz movements.

So not to be confused, Tudor is not a Rolex model, but a whole different company owned by Rolex. Many think it is a model or reference for a Rolex model. It is not, and carries different paperwork, and serial numbers than the Rolex watches.

Tudors are outstanding watches and some of the older models are very collectible.

By the way, beware of any vintage Tudor dial marked with Rolex coronets, as they were not marketed with the Rolex coronet on the dial. These dials have been altered and were redialed to enhance the value, or fool the buyer, and marketed to unsuspecting buyers. Some older Tudor watches did wear Rolex branded crowns and bands.

That's it in a nutshell. Good luck and good hunting. There are many threads here concerning Tudor watches.

Link 1; What are Tudor watches

Link 2; It was not until 1946 that Hans Wilsdorf first opened Tudor. Wilsdorf chose the name Tudor because he wanted to honor the Tudor period of England.

Cheers,
Joe
