I banged my GMT IIC really hard against a metal chair....

Banged the face/bezel so hard against a metal chair that the 1st few words that popped in my head was "oh sh*t", "what have I done".


I took off my watch frantically and stared at it for a few mins from all angle,,, and to my surprised, not a single scratch on the glass or bezel.

I was about to cry like a little tinny, winny little baby.


I am the happiest GMT IIC owner right now, been wearing my watch for a few months and to my suprised, it's still flawless.



Thought I had a major catastrophe when I banged the GMT.


So glad I got the Ceramic Bezel,,,,now I wonder if it can stop a speeding bullet.

Just enjoy the watch!

Yes, you need to be mindful of the polished center links because they will scratch fairly easily. But otherwise this and every other Rolex is a damn well made watch that will age remarkably well. The ceramic bezel is especially durable.

Whatever scratches you do impose you can remove using methods described on the forum. When that fails, send it to be serviced and it will come back good as new.

If you want to keep it perfect, keep it in the box like far too many owners do.

But my advice is to wear when you want, repair when you need, and enjoy all the time.

My IIc is a tough watch, at work or at the gym when a metal handle came around and slapped the watch on the front of the bezel, there was no scratches at all, even after it made a loud sound when it hit the watch.

Im suprised how much many risk with their watches.. Sure they are meant to take a smack or two...but I dont want to be concerned about it while wearing during work or rough play..
At work I use a inexpensive no name because I need to concentrate on the job and not the hobby, and at play I use a damage proof rubber sports watch which is made for total abuse. The rest of the time I enjoy my watches without concern of damage.....if the unfortunate does happon...it can be fixed...

I just adored the Ceramic bezel and it being scratch proof. Rolex just continues to come up with clever upgrades. The glass/bezel will be looking new for a long, long time down the road.

The way I banged the watch, it would of scratch the bezel with any other watch. Just thankful the watch is still 99% as new 3 months later.

I was checking out a GMT-IIc in an AD in Manchester, UK this weekend just gone, and the guy there reckons he's just sent one off for another customer to have the bezel replaced, after it cracked - at a cost of just under £2000!!!

This is apparently due in part to the need to break off the old bezel in order to fit a new one. Is this right?

Whilst ceramic is good for scratch resistance, corrosion resistance, it does tend to be brittle: in general, the harder something is, the more brittle it is so I can see how this might be.

Anyway, it has made me think twice about pulling the trigger on one - and perhaps going for a V-serial SD instead (if I can find one...).

Has anyone here experienced actaully damaging the bezel on a GMT-IIc? If so, what was the cost of replacing the ceramic part of the bezel?

Now I have not checked the replacement cost of the bezel but I reckon the salesman was talkingh through his a**e, like most AD salesmen who do not have much product knowledge of the things they sell. How can it cost £2000 when you can but a new watch for £4360, and with discount or buying BINB from the forum you probably can get one for less than £4000. Even if it is the TT version it would not cost that much to replace the gold bezel.

Lucky for you, Matt. These Ceramic bezels are really very, very tough and can take a much better beating than their anodized aluminium counterparts.

Tim, I had the same thing happen with my gmtIIc - banged it that hard against a chair that paint from the chair needed to be rubbed off the cyclops & the bezel. I was thrilled to see not a mark remained after i cleaned it up. Ceramic insert can take a hard impact type knock very well!

The first full day I owned my GMT IIc I hit it hard against a a stucco wall. Once I cleaned off some pieces of wall I saw that there was no damage. The ceramic bezel is not only tough but it is beautiful as well. If Rolex does come out with a Sub with a ceramic bezel in SS as everyone seems to think I'll be really tempted.
