Finally bought my Tudor Rose!
After going back and forth with the seller, he agreed to sell it to me without using Paypal. It has a refinished dial that looks like a million bucks, very well done. 3rd quarter 1964 (About the time I was conceived) I might look for an untouched dial and hands some day, but for now I am pleased. $2500 shipped. Just had a recent service, pressure tested and cleaned.

Thanks guys, now I feel better. He had a see-thru caseback on the watch and replaced it with an original III 64 dated back. The guy paid $600 alone for the caseback here-----http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...1#ht_720wt_941 which I thought was a bit on the steep side for a caseback. Anyway, it looks like he spent some time and money bringing the watch back to life, I feel it's money well spent.

The guy spent some money getting it redone, don't know why he sold it unless he needed the money or he got the piece real cheap to begin with. The dial is a bang up job, and the fact that he took the time to source a caseback for 600 bucks just blows my mind.

Nice Nicko!!!
You have something close to a 5513 for half the price or so. Agree that see through case back for $600 was too much. The german watchmaker mentioned in TRF threads does a virtually identical back for about $200. |

That certainly is a good looking Tudor, love the creamy patina of the indicies, suits the watch perfectly, looks like it has (and will be) well loved, I would like to see it on a bracelet, although that strap does go with it very well indeed, stunning photography too.
Wear your beautiful watch with pride and the very best of health.

Can any of you Tudor experts tell me why the crown is not a triplock? Just curious, I've seen many old pieces without the 3 dots under the crown.

I just finished talking to the seller of this watch. Its previous owner had the watch serviced approximately one year ago by a Rolex trained watchmaker in Austin TX. It came with a sapphire display back and a very crude redial, he tells me that he bought the new dial from ND Trading for ($350), he said bought from them because they use authentic Tudor dials and their work looks virtually identical to an original (the proof is in the pics). His watchmaker in Denver (www.henrisjewelry.com) installed the dial and re-finished the original hands with an “aged” lume. While there, he said that the custom caseback would not pass a pressure test, so he looked for an original 7928 caseback. I few weeks later, up pops on Ebay the exact caseback for the watch from a very reputable Rolex parts seller in the correct year! Amazed at his luck, he snatched it up right away for ($600) His watchmaker installed the “new” caseback with a new gasket and the watch passed the pressure test to factory specifications.
So there's the story of this Tudor Sub! |
