A Really Good TV Comedy
In TVland, where "reality" TV dominates the airwaves, it seems the good old fashioned comedy has slid away.
Until this past fall. Showcase up here in Canuckleheadland, premiered eight episodes of a show called Rent-A-Goalie and it totally rocks! It's about a guy with a chequered past, who gets down to basics, living by "The Code" , his own book of rules to live well, while managing a coffee shop in Toronto's Little Italy, and running his rent-a-goalie service. The goalies all hang out in the shop and each show has a few themes that all seem to unravel, very Seinfeldesque in the end. It's really profane, politically incorrect extremely well written and the funniest (to me) current show on television. Their website is: http://www.showcase.ca/microsites/rentagoalie/ The ensemble cast is great and has two hotties played by Inga Cadrenel and Mayko Nguyen. Oh, Christopher Bolton is awesome as Cake! So far guests have included Tiger Williams, Phil Esposito and Darryl Sittler. If you're in Canada or get Canadian Showcase, it's on (now in reruns but new episodes are pending) Sundays at 9:30, right after Trailer Park Boys. |
