Fake Dial on this GMT???
http://cgi.ebay.com/ROLEX-GMT-MASTER...item3efd242423
The markers look too close to the rail, versus the documented originals (to me, that is). |

I would get hold of either Steve Mulholland our in house vintage guru or, TempoKing. They would be able to answer that question.

If it is real, they either dont know what they have, or hope a bidding war takes place. I dont have the qualifications to make that call on authenticity.

The dial appears to be a very early gilt, chapter ring dial. Marked "Swiss" at the bottom as it should be. The pics aren't the best, but it looks original. The crowns weren't very distinct on this dial. The possibility exists that it is a re-dial as the photos aren't the best quality.

first the dial is older then the case. the case is a gilt era
case, not a gilt chapter ring occ dial case. also the 24hr hand is also not correct for that dial. next the watch is not a 1960 watch. leave those pubished sheets written by the internet scholars alone. you will get bit. |

The hands are wrong, of course.
The case and dial do not match, of course. The correct case for an OCC gmt dial would have pointed crown guards. The dial looked fake to me for two reasons, only going by the not-so-clear pictures of the Ebay listing: 1) The luminous markings on the Ebay dial seem to be too close to the rail than true examples of OCC dials I see posted on the internet from esteemed experts. 2) The "O" in "ROLEX" appears more rounded in the Ebay pic vs. the more squared-shaped "O" from a true example. Also, the printing of "ROLEX" appears heavier in the Ebay pic than the more delicate printing in a true example. Here is a true example: http://www.network54.com/Forum/20759...+GMT+Gilt+Dial But I am a newbie, and am seeking to learn. |

To clarify the above comment, I meant that the opening in the "O" in "ROLEX" is more square-shaped in a true OCC dial than the more circular opening in the "O" that I see in the Ebay pic.

Err buddy TTG...thanks for uploading the pic...
The Dial shown in the picture...looks to be a REDONE Dial... NOT by Rolex...originally. Note: 1.40mil case series Rolex 1675 does NOT have PCG or Pointy Crown Guards... The crown guards have rounded ends... This here is a related to a small project that Orchi has initiated in VRF...recently... http://www.network54.com/Forum/20759...ct+LIST.%2B%2B Hopes the above helps... |

An odd one. Serial should date it to 1960 but that age should have PCGs. Wonder if it has the 1565 or 1575. A bit too confused even to base a rebuild (back to how it "should" be) on i think.

Well, I should have looked at this a little more, instead of focusing on the dial. There is much more going on here than a questionable dial. I disagree with my friend Orchi on the dial being a redial - based on the pics. It might be, but I don't see how you could be 100%.
The case is incorrect and should have the pointed crown guards if it is circa 1960 - which it isn't based on the incorrect crown guards. The serial number is much later vintage and does not match the dial. Actually, I'm not sure what is going on with this GMT, but I wouldn't buy it for my GMT collection. I see there have been much interest here in this GMT. Nice to see that the watchout section has some quick studies. And to my learned friend Orchi, where the hell have you been lately?
