Got my first dslr and decided to use my bluesy as a model :) I really need a macro lens for these kinds of shots, but i tried to make due. Any pros feel free to give me tips as i am quite novice.

looks like this site resamples png files making them blurry, so re-uploading as a jpg to try and avoid that.

Hmmm, considering you took that without a macro lens it's very impressive, are you using a lightbox? That will help along with just using the macro in general as it will greatly increase focus on the watch.

I'm quite an amateur photographer though, so you may have already known that! Just trying to help.

the watch seems a bit soft...is it OOF or isit the resampling problem??...

Congrats on the watch..........absolutely beauty!!

If your camera has MACRO mode which is indicated by the yellow lotus flower, use it. Turn off the FLASH. Use either a mini-tripod or place the camera on a solid object so there's no shake.

Once you've got a few good pics, crop them so you knock off all that surrounding unwanted scenery and concentrate only on the watch. You really need to use the CROP feature.

The trick is to diffuse the strong light from what looks like the window... use a thin sheet of paper to do so, otherwise it looks fine to me, nice watch and nice image capture

Wow, thanks for all of the great input! That re-sampling really messes with the image quality. Now I know not to upload directly to TRF :) I really want a macro lens now...and maybe a few more Rolex's. One other thing is that I was trying to properly capture the blue color under natural light as you don't get to see that in an AD or most photos.

Maybe so, but you are still not highlighting the beauty of the watch itself. We want to see the watch in more detail.........not the surroundings and background.

Please try to shoot this TT Blue Subby in Natural light using Macro mode as JJ suggested.. This will really show how nice is the Smurf Blue !

Aaaaaah......Much better, obviously.....I agree with the diffuser comment to try to tone down the natural light just a smidgen in order to reduce the glare on the watch, but, otherwise, great shot!

Personally, I like the items in the background, the furniture and the lamp. It places the watch in your everyday context, as opposed to a super macro of just the watch (sorry JJ, but, IMHO, if the goal is to show just the watch, looking at Rolex's catalogue would suffice).

I am using a Canon T2i. I am already using natural lighting and tripod but I don't have a macro lens so I am making due with the kit lens. The watch is about as close as it can be and still focus. Obviously the lens wasn't really designed to shoot this close, so this is right on the limit of what it can do.
