But I thought there wasn't a design flaw?

Wasn't that we were holding them wrong???

i am using 4.0.1 already. dont notice anything different though.

my impression of the iphone 4.
  1. the screen is amazing
  2. the battery lasts a lot longer
  3. the speed is a big step above the 3gs
  4. multitasking is cool
  5. great video
  6. great camera
  7. i get less dropped calls compared to my previous phones (i used the 3g iphone)
  8. i really like the bumper, not that i get a refund, i'll like it even more
  9. i can make the signal drop like they do in the videos but only if i try real hard
  10. i do think apple dropped the ball
  11. i wont be returning my iphone 4 because even with its weak points, the phone is a vast improvement to me and i really love it

I got free bumper early on (long story) and I don't even use it. I like a naked iPhone. I must be one of the lucky ones with no problems with my iPhone 4.

the free bumper was offered today to overcome the "design flaw" they apparently knew a year ago and have decided to still go ahead with it - because mr. Jobs loves the design (according to a news report)

IMO - it is a smart move as a total recall would cost upwards of 1 billion....

So does that mean all new iPhone 4 puchase will automatically come with a free bumper now?

So holding the phone in your hand up to your ear causes the signal to drop? Who could have foreseen that problem?

Not sure with that but..smart move that should keep some of the buyers shut up for awhile...lol but other than that it is the best phone you can get other than the antenna issue..no biggie some people complain about it in the first place THEY DONT EVEN HAVE SIGNAL!!!

the problem starts at the lower left corner of iPhone 4 - that's where the phone antenna meets the wi fi antenna.

The skin contact of both create the singal problem...

Yes, indeed he is !

IMHO, get ready to get the next model, which will be more excited than this iphone 4 because of its current flaw fixing.

I thought the press conference was interesting. My IT team and I got together with our various types of cell phones and tried to hold them in a way that caused the bars to drop. We couldn't show less than the maximum signal on any of the phones.

Antenna on the outside....I love it!

Steve Jobs is a very good businessman.

He knows the fan boi will be happy with a free case.

Personally, I would be pissed.

I have already downloaded the update and don't see much of a difference but of course I have a iPhone 3GS. I'm planning on waiting for them to upgrade in a few months and then will buy one! People I know who have one tell me they are not having any problems!!!
So go figure.....

All the bumpers are unavailable on the Apple UK online store, looks like they are preparing for a big out load.

I have been using the iPhone 4 for a couple of weeks and I haven't had any signal problems that are not typical of the AT&T network. I was using a Droid Incredible on Verizon prior to that (I'm experimenting for my office), and it was also a top notch phone.

However, I'm going with the iPhone 4. When push came to shove, I found myself reaching for the iPhone rather than the Droid. For me, that's the true test.

FYI--I haven't been using a bumper with the phone, but I haven't noticed any signal issues.

I think the whole thing is a complete joke. I was quite close to leaving my BB and T-Mobile for the iPhone 4 and AT&T but I have to say this has all been very off-putting.

Steve Jobs is laughing all the way to the bank with this one!

While I do love my iPhone 4, I do have to agree with you.

I think it's MUCH more than a coincidence that Apple decided to "take a crack" and making a "case" (AKA "bumper") for thier newly released iPhone 4.
My guess is that someone KNEW about the reception issue even before it was released, hence them making a case.

Also, Steve Jobs said that most other Smartphones also appear to drop bars when held in a certain manner as well.
Well, I beg to differ. In this tec. review video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dogM4...os=LrzOJGs_t_M

clearly, NOT all smart-phones appear to suffer from antennaits, or whatever they are calling it.

Although, I do applaud Apple for giving the consumer a free case. That will save me $$$ for going out and buying one. Maybe with the case my amount of dropped calls (to many to count so far) will start to diminish.

The antenna issue was way over-blown. Apple should of addressed it early on, but I guess they needed to do more research before making an official announcement. The iPhone 4 is still the best smartphone on the planet in my book.

I am still of this opinion.

I don't suffer from the problem, but I think that Apple has underestimated the problem by basing their facts on the number of people that have complained to their customer support, many, many people would just "Hold it in a different way" others just can't be bothered to complain, and others would just live with it, this doesn't mean that the problem is not widespread.

My opinion is that Apple shares will go up, based on the misconception/misinformation that the problem has been solved with the "generous" (that was tongue in cheek) introduction of a twenty five quid bumper.

What do I think of my iPhone 4, it is without doubt the best phone I have ever had, that doesn't excuse it for being the worst phone others have purchased. I would not be chuffed to say the least, if I was suffering the same problem others have experienced.
I will say that the UK generally has very good coverage where 5 bars seems to be the norm (People from the UK can disagree, Im talking about my experience with O2) I live in a small out of the way village in a dip that I could not get any signal whatsoever on my 3GS, I generally have 1 or 2 bars with my 4 so in those terms I am better off.
