Hello From Manhattan, KS!

Good afternoon All!

I joined to learn a bit about Rolex and and the history that surrounds the legendary name. I've always had a thing for watches but never really had the funds to sink into an expensive timepiece as a luxury. I lost my father 5 years ago and as I've only recently started going through some of his possessions that we have in storage I've run across what I believe is a somewhat vintage piece. I'm going to post pics (what would be the appropriate forum to do that in here?) so you guys can see what I'm working with. I have no idea of the history of the piece but it is obviously worn, is without a band of any sort and is in need of some TLC. I've researched a bit online to learn about Rolex in general (hence my finding this forum) so I thought this would be a great first place to start my info gathering.

When I get home from work I'll post the pics and all the info I've discerned from the watch (serial number on the back, etc.).

Thanks for letting me ramble and a big hello to all of you. Incidentally I'm a mod on a Mustang Enthusiast website so I know how to behave and conduct myself on forum sites.

Cheers!
Brett

Thanks for the quick welcome guys!

Here are some quick pics... I don't have a macro lens so hopefully these will suffice.

Any help on identification/ guidance would be appreciated. If this needs moved to a different forum section please feel free to do so.

The piece has obvious moisture damage due to poor care/ age. The serial # on the back is 763125. Could this be an early 60's model with the recylced serial number series? I can't find any pics online that resemble this piece. The only thing that's close is a chronometer from the 40's that has the exact style crown and a similar face and chronograph. If this is worth restoring I would love to do so as it's something you don't see everyday. I can see why you guys and gals have such passion for these watches. I hesitate to open the case to see if it has a Roman numeral date code like they say they started in the mid 50's.

Any guidance or insight as to what I have here would be greatly appreciated! I can take additional pics upon request if these don't fit the bill.

Take care all...

Brett

I posted the pics over in the vintage sub section so hopefully we can get this figured out. I just hate not knowing the history of this watch and how it came into my dad's possesion. Hopefully it's not too far gone for a resto or repair. Again, thanks for the warm welcome guys...this seems to be a friendly site.

Welcome bro. Manhattan, Kansas eh? I was stationed there back in 2007. A small town with good people where Walmart is the center of all business. There is an awesome Authorized Dealer in Kansas City, MO; you should check them out. I forgot the name of the place but it can be found on the Rolex website.

Again, thanks for the welcome guys... and lol... we have more than a Walmart now! I'm from Omaha originally but fell in love with KS when I came to go to school here many moons ago. I guess the pics are being approved still by the mods so when they show up maybe we can have them move this thread to the vintage section.

Appreciate the attention guys...

Edit - ok, I see the pics have been added. If the mods wish to move this to the Vintage section feel free to do so. I'm anxious to see what I have here...

Brett

Thanks for the tip... if I have rights to pm as a new member I'll send him one and direct him to view my post in the vintage section.

I feel like I'm close to getting a mystery solved.
