Need Big Time help 6298!!!
I have a 6298 which was the Dress Version of the Explorer I when first introduced. I have combed the internet and can't find one like this. The word Explorer is not on the dial. This watch is completely original, I am about to have it cleaned up. Can someone help me with the history on how the word Explorer could possibly be missing, remember this is a case # 6298, not a 6352 or 6350.
The dial is a honeycomb dial and under Rolex is says "Oyster Perpetual" and above the 6 o'clock it says "shock resisting" inside case back is "II 56" The radium is still very nicely intact. Anyone have an answer on why the word "Explorer" is missing on this vintage 6298?? |

6298 come with either Explorer and non-Explorer version even the dial is 369. Here is my 6298 non-Explorer with 369 dial.....

The only pre explorer with the black face 3,6,9 dial (more akin to the Explorer1) is the 6150... all the same, the watch you have is quite nice esp with that textured dial. |

I went through Antiquorum's database ( Nor anywhere on google) and can't find one example of a watch with this dial and a matching 6298 case #. Cleaned up what do you think it could be worth? Thanks again. |

when you mean clean up, leave the dial/ hands and ease off on the polishing.....:) these old oysters are a bit of a niche market. Personally, I love them but the mkt dictates value..... I think between 3 to 4.5K is about fair, others may be more in touch with current prices(adamV, bagel etc ) for these 6298's........ |
