I would hardly call the opinion of one AD a representative sample to base any conclusion about worldwide sales of any particular model. I love the new Ceramic Sub and think that in a year or so, those who don't love it right away will warm up to it. Pictures don't do it justice.

X2. I love titles like this...very misleading in that the very important fact of "One AD's Observation" was left out.

I know from first hand experience talking w/ 4 different ADs in multiple west coast states (2 in OR & 2 in CA) they very much said the complete opposite.

I was only able to handle a Sub-C in one of those ADs because they all reported the new ss Sub-C sold in less than a weeks time and the one I actually saw had literally just arrived the morning I walked into the store.

Couldn't be more different for us, I don't think one has been in the shop longer than 7 days yet. Had one go in the window, was snapped up the same day, still getting lots of enquiries about them too.

I tried on the new LV in my AD yesterday and it was amazing. I probably wouldn't buy it as I never wear green, but the sales gal said it would not stay in the safe too long... They were also out of SS ceramic subs and TT ones...

I'm a GMT guy, so I've never owned the SUB (or will), so I don't have a pony in the old vs new Sub race.

However, IMO, the new Sub is beautiful, really striking in person. But the price increase is hefty, and I think that is definitely hurting sales. I also think some are worried about the ceramic bezel on a dive watch. But ultimately, I think it's just the plain old economy, and I look for sales to pick up when the economy does.

Unfortunately, by the time the economy picks up, the retail for a SS Sub could be approaching $20,000.

In Vienna (Austria) it's almost impossible to buy a black SS Sub-C, and even less chance to get a Sub-C LV. Only 250 km's away from Vienna, in Budapest (Hungary) you can get either Sub-C versions from stock -- all you have to do is dust them off :)

So what I'm trying to say: it's quite region specific which models are hot and which ones are not.

Totally agree. Also remember that with the economy the way it is there are some places really badly affected and some others that are humming along normally, and there often isn't a great deal of distance between them.
If you consider that the vast majority of rolex buyers are unaware of this forum, and look at how often there is a posting like "my new subc!" on TRF, you can figure there must be a fair number of subc sales out there.
Ps. If you like the watch then who cares what sales are like. The fewer people that buy it the more different mine seems!

Remember most buyers are not WISs, a good AD salesperson knows how to 'steer' the customer to what the AD wants sold.

So, if you are looking at a higher priced Rolex and then ask about the new Sub-C, the response will likely be 'they are hard to find' because he wants you to go back and buy the higher priced Rolex.

Or, if you are non-commital but interested in the Sub-C, there may 'be one in the back for another customer' I could get you...

Feel manipulated? That's their goal.

I wouldn't believe that 'status' of any new Rolex coming from an AD. It's their game.

I witness this at my own AD with a GMT II v GMT IIc sale. It was a done deal. The guy never knew what hit him......except the $6800 bill he left with!

So you're saying that in order to be considered a WIS you have to have a sub and not a sub-c? I think you have your most biased hat on with that statement.
For the number of people on this forum that do have a sub c and love them I think that was a very patronizing statement, bordering on rude and even ignorant. (unless it was meant as a joke and I misread the intent).

Are you serious? This was a response to another post where I was agreeing that most Rolex owners are not WIS's and a good salesman will steer these individuals to the more expensive model, aka sub-c.

Now a WIS would already know about the classic sub and the sub-c before they ever go to the AD. They will most likely know which one they want ahead of time.

Oh yeah....I own a ceramic gmt too and an aluminum sub, so am I biased b/c I own both?

in swindon but have to buy from my local AD as I sell him all his cars, so its one of them really. Oxford had an lv the other week and kindly let me look at it and i def prefer it to normal black.

I personally much prefer the new sub c to the classic, and I never thought I would say or think that.

The reason I don't have one is the price, if they were still in the $4's I would buy one today. The problem for me is that once I spend that much on a watch, I start to look at other brands and I would much rather have a Blancpain Fifty Fathons than a run of the mill sub.

Right now I am waiting for the hype to die down and when I can get on in the $5's, I will buy one and keep it for the rest of my life.

As far as availability, they are sitting in my AD's display case, waiting for someone who is willing to pay MSRP, which I will never do.

Seen a few of them around. One dealer told me takes him a week or so to get one. They were all over Vegas also. I think like most "high demand" rollies if you look you can find them.

There was a mad scramble for the 'V' series. I bought one of the very last few pieces before it was completely sold out.

Subsequently, the new ceremic Sub was sold out as well.

Plenty of gold and platinum models around though.
