Worlds Greatest Electric Guitar player?

I like Keith Richards...but I would have to say Slash is the best I have ever heard. Im old and hands have arthritis .....cant play that stuff anymore.
well never could when I was 30 either.
I read the other day he gave up drinking and smoking now that he has kids and is 45 ...getting old changes you
Keith give up?.....no way......he will die with a cigarette in his mouth.

My knuckles are starting to look like his (not that bad) and it is painful so Im sure It hurts his playing unless he takes some hydrocodone/oxycodone before he starts.....which he has been known to have a few drugs from time to time

Thanks, Lisa! Too hard to tell if it affects his playing.

I read Keef stopped drinking because he saw how booze was ruining Ronnie Wood's life. Can you imagine having such a bad drinking problem that it makes Keef Richard's stop drinking??

I've been listening to a lot of the early Stone's records the last few years, kind of revisiting them, and Keith Richards may not be what you might consider a shredder, and who cares really, but I've really come to really appreciate just how good he was and is from a musical standpoint. The right note at the right time, so to speak. The opening riff from "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" comes to mind. I just love that sound. The man has soul, whereas your so-called shredder types, like Malmsteen or Steve Vai, leave me cold. I'll take Keith over guys like that any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Keith makes it look so simple but its very hard to get that sound....and i try all the time.
"Cant you here me knocking" IMHO greatest Stone song off all time off their greatest recording ....sticky fingers.

Keith is the reason I play a Telecaster and Clapton a Strat.
I know 50 million will say a LP is better but I can play them well for some reason.
Maybe its because my first Guitar was a Tele

I have both, and I don't think one is better than the other. They are different and you get a different sound out of each; humbuckers versus single coils. Personally, I think they are both outstanding guitars.

Keefs watches

As I mentioned somewhere else on this site I bought my first watch after seeing a picture of Keef taken from an interview.
He mentioned in the interview that he'd won it off Jeff Beck.
I liked the look of it and it turned out to be a Cartier Panthere - That was ages ago but he has quite a few tasty watches, as does Lou Reed.

Anyway, back to the guitarist malarky:

It's a bit tedious everyone stating their favourite guitarist, so a couple of years ago I started a forum on zappa.com where everyone voted for who they considered the most overated guitarist and it started thus:

I'll start the ball rolling in no particular order:

1 Pete Townsend - I've never heard him play anything I couldn't play and I'm the worst guitarist I know.
2 Eric Clapton - Average pub band talent I would say, but to be fair he's probably more Housewifes Choice rather than Guitar Musos
3 Jimmy Page - I think I must be missing something as too many people rate him highly for him to be as ordinary as I think.
4 Slash - Why??
5 The Edge - You are kidding of course?

I'll leave the others for everyone to debate, as I'll be busy avoiding the death threats etc., that I will now be getting - after all it is a very serious subject!

Moving swiftly on to watches: I'm searching for a Sinn bereft of date - Similarish to an Explorer. I'm sure I saw one somewhere but may have been mistaken? Any clues anyone?
As always, comments are much appreciated.

Greg,
Looks like he is right out of Pirates of the Caribbean.

My vote for best gutarist would be Eric Clapton or Stevie Ray Vaughn.

There are flat out amazing guitarists out there. If I can only name one who could and did play every kind of music. It would have to be...

Tommy Tedesco who was in the Wrecking Crew. A west coast group of studio musicians. That guy could make a guitar do things that I don't think Joe Pass* could.

Another top contender.
