Submariner Puchased in the WTC
Back in 1988 I purchased a Rolex Submariner in the concourse of the World Trade Center. I have all documentation with serial numbers and WTC address including the certificate of authenticity from Rolex with the raised seal and original boxes. This watch is in mint condition. I would be interested in the opinions of all Rolex enthusiasts around the world as to the monetary value in USA currency. My children are going to private college and I have considered selling the Rolex for tuition.
Thanks, Barry |

I think you would probably be able to get the going rate for a sub based on serial number and condition. I don't think the fact it was sold by the boutique in the WTC will up the value. It could be a piece of nostalgia for someone. I'm sure there were a number of other watches sold there as well.

Welcome!
Can you post some pictures? It would be helpful. BTW, the fact that your Sub was purchased in the WTC, shouldn't increase the value any. |

Interesting story, someone may be tempted to pay a couple bucks extra considering the history…but it may take time to find that special buyer. Good luck with your sale!

Market value only based on condition and series. Had you bought it on 9-10 then maybe a collector might pay more but I don't see why. The watch was bought in 1988 it's far reaching to try to place any historical significance on the watch. .

$4000 to $4500 for an original watch with all its accessories and warranty paper if it is a 168000. It could be a 16800, which would be valued more.

I feel it's quite insensitive trying to make more money on a watch after a tragedy like 9/11. Come on!

Hmmm, yeah. I could undestand it being the last watch sold at the store on the morning of 9/11, before the horror.
My toughts still go out to those lost and left behind with loss.

mmmhhh !! A touchy subject to a lot of people especially as it "sounds" as if your looking to maximise your potential profit based on the location of a horrific event that took place which still fresh in most peoples minds
Realise you have your kids futures in mind & a costly next couple of years ahead of you. If I was you I'd do my own research on this & a few other forums - see what similar mint watches with all documentation go for & then make your decision to sell on that basis. I'd maybe play down the WTC connection a bit as that could backfire on you as seems to be happening above. |

You're watch isn't worth any more than any other one from the same time. Just because of where it was purchased, it doesn't make it any more valuable.
I think it's horrible that you're trying to make a profit based on such a tragedy If you're looking to send your kids to college from your profits, I hope you're only planning on sending them to a community college because that's about all you'll get for it. |

Welcome to TRF and congrats on your first post.
Gosh. I had to think about this a little... Kind of sad that someone would want to extract a premium on a great (but not rare) Rolex watch because it was purchased in the WTC. Just my |
