What is so special...
...about 11 minutes past 10 on the 28th day of the month?
All Rolex watches on their website show this time and date. Aesthetically pleasing or some global mechanical watch conspiracy? |

You'll see a lot of watch manufacturers set the watch to 11 minutes past 10, apparently it's supposed to make the watch "smile", as well as show off most of the dial. Rolex uses the 28th for their date window as it fills it up the most

Looks balanced, shows off most of the writing on the dial, and is aesthetically pleasing. Like Chris said, most manufacturers do it this way.

Interesting that Rolex uses 11 past - and not precisely 10 past 10.
I start at 10 past 10 when taking watch photos. It sometimes takes me a minute or more to get a "keeper" ;-) |

It's when the world ends in 2012... just not sure if it is AM / PM or what time zone.

Reminds me of the old Timex commercial. They explained that the hands positioned at 10:09 framed the dial's brand name/logo nicely. Also, by having the same time on all their pictures, no one will think they watch they see on the TV is running fast or late if they happen to see it at a similar time as shown on screen. Even their digital watches show 10:09!

I bought my Explorer on the 28th, but not at 10:10. At least, I did not have to change the date.

Can't have this!! The date must be broken! Maybe try a new battery. |

It's the exact time and date, (Greenwich time), that an asteroid the size of Texas...
Just kidding, it's the standard position of the hands that watchmakers have displayed their wares since time out of mind. 28 seems to be the default date to show. |

Ii actually intended for the seconds hand to "clear" the text on the dial...so the photo is pretty bang on from my perspective!!

No worries Squire!
However, I shall be more mindful for the next batch of photos I take! ;-) |
