What to do with my 16610...(dial-up beware)
Seriously... does dial-up even exist anymore?
Anyways, I bought this 16610 used about 7 months ago - it really was the first watch I fell in love with. Due to my budget constraints at the time $$$ didn't permit me to buy a brand new unit. Now I have a new Milgauss to wear I am thinking about sending this watch in for a servicing (I have no idea if its been serviced before and it's gaining a few seconds weekly.) I am trying to figure out the following: * Since this is going to run me at least $500 bucks I am wondering what kind of watch I am going to get back - many have commented the watches come back looking like new but I wanted you to take a look at the pictures below and let me know what you think. * Do they do anything with the band? I realize they'll probably buff it all up nice and new but do they tighten the band when they go in? * I think the guy who sold it to me put a new bezel insert on it (he didn't tell me that's what he did however the lume is completely shot on the dial but the bezel "pearl" magically still glows.) Is there any way to get a bezel insert that doesn't glow any more from the 90s? I want something that matches the watch as much as possible. If I keep this watch I want the Bezel insert "pearl" to patina up like the dial. I like the 16610 no doubt - the look is great but I am considering giving it all up now for a 16610 LV, a SubC, or a DSSD (alas the more I see the DSSD the more I think the watch wears you versus you wearing the watch.) With the lack of the lume, the unmatching bezel, and a small micro nick on the crystal (yeah... it really is barely visible) I am trying to decide if I should just love this one or put her up for adoption before I drop $500 on her. Thoughts? |

The watch will come back looking as new.
They will not tighten the band, that would be a separate service. You can get another insert, period proper for about $100-125 Not knowing what you paid, I do not know if you will get your money back when selling if you service. Give the new owner the opportunity to get that done, they may not mind the bezel insert or condition of the band. Good luck! |

your watch is in MUCH better condition than a lot I have seen...you can easily sell it well and buy something you'd wear more, like a new SubC or an LV (which would be my personal preference choice)...cuz from how put it, I honestly feel you'll enjoy your new watch more so dont drop $500 on it cuz its already quiet new in most respects so there'll be little improvement in essentials...this is just a sincere opinion.hope you enjoy wichecer route you take

If you're still enjoying the Sub..
I say keep it and send it in for service. When you get it back it will be like getting a new watch.
Plus, having the service at an official RSC should put all other concerns you have about the watch at ease. Good luck. |

I'm confused-- if you really like the Sub and have only had it for 7 months, why do anything at all? Do you just want it closer to new condition?
If you are going to sell it, let the next owner decide on the service. He may want more or less done to the watch. Also, I believe you will have a hard time getting your money back for the service cost when you sell. |

My advice: put the sub away and wear the GV until you 'want' the sub again...make a decision then about it's future.

You may want to asses first how much you'll get if you sell it , then if your funds are sufficient to upgrade to SubC or DSSD i say go for it!

Why do you want to "service" a running watch?

16610LV, 116610, and the SeaDweller would be my focused replacements... I like the LV for the swapping capability of course. I'm not a HUGE green fan...(on the Bezel that is... My MillieGV kicks butt in green :D) The new SubC is growing on me. The SeaDweller could be the perfect banger watch. I need to go to a AD to try on the DeepSea but it looks like it may not be a daily wearer which a replacement will probably end up being.
