From 60 to zero in barely two months!!

Hi guys,

In case you fellas are wondering what I'm talking about, barely 2 months ago, I could dig out 60 push ups at our gym, weighed a solid 200 pounds and could handle weights guys half my age couldn't manage.

Today, I'm too scared to even try one single push up because of all the tubes and other stuff that have been embedded into my body.

How the hell did this happen to me? I was considered as the epitome of good health and fitness by my family and friends....................and now this?

Sad, very sad. Even screaming UNFAIR seems ridiculous at this stage now.

JJ:

There is no explanation why this crap happens to people who are the epitome of health and fitness.

I was hyper-vigilant of my health after my dad died of a heart attack at 54 (I was 16). I watched what I ate, exercised like a professional athlete, and maintained a relatively stress-free life. I made it my mission NOT to die early like he did. My doctor kept saying my cholesterol levels and ratios were the best he had ever seen in an adult male.

Then I get testicular cancer out of the blue. No rhyme or reason. It just happened. Mine was nothing of the caliber that you have to deal with and it never progressed beyond Stage I. However, it did mentally jack me up for a couple of years.

The one thing I want to say to you is that you have the opportunity to surround yourself with the love of your friends and family in your fight. Focus on that and not why this happened. My biggest regret was that my father died so suddenly that I never had time to really tell him how much I loved him. There has been a HUGE hole in me for my whole adult life because of this.

Maybe the one little ray of silver lining in this whole shitty thing is that your loved ones are now able to be there for you and say the things to you that they want and need to make their own peace, should these events not unfold the way that you and I both want them to. They need this for themselves as much as you need it for your own piece of mind.

My family will be keeping yours in our thoughts.

You're resistance may have been compromised by the stressful events you experienced several months ago.

What events could cause cancer of the pancreas?

What a very poignant, sobering post JJ and it just reminds us ALL never to take our health for granted and to make the most of our time on this earth and not to moan and whinge about little things that dont really matter such as a scratch on a watch etc etc .

JJ keep fighting Buddy , and keep a positive attitude and a miracle may just happen , I will keep praying for you .

One of the biggest risk multipliers is smoking according to the oncology guys at my former employer (Johns Hopkins Hospital). Possibly doubling or tripling the risk compared to a non-smoker in some studies.

It's a known fact that stress lowers one's resistance. It's also a know fact that we all have cancer cells in our bodies.

Dear JJ,

What else could one possibly say that hasn't already been said. Cancer is a terrible disease and I see it every day, up close and personal. I work in a pathology laboratory and what we see will change patients, their families and friends lives.

You are a true friend and inspiration to people all over the planet - that alone
speaks volumes to the type of man you are. Your lovely wife and family must feel blessed to have you in their lives - that alone will give you the courage and strength to fight this disease. None of us know what tomorrow brings - it is for this very simple reason, that we must live each day to our fullest potential and strive to be a better person and tell the ones we love how we feel each day. Easier said than done - it's a sad fact, that only when we are faced with life's biggest challenges that we fully understand this.

So JJ, keep the faith and take it one hour, one day at a time. It is out of your hands - if the good Lord needs you more than us on earth, then he must have very special plans for such a good person.

God bless you and may he watch over you and your family - and offer you peace, serenity, comfort and love.

All the best - we hope to see your fantastic smile for many years to come!

Kindest regards,

John

JJ,

Great to skype with you today, my friend. You were my first skype experience just a few short years back and now I stay in touch with new friends and business associates on a constant basis from around the globe.

I'll never forget when you regularly asked about Sandee during her bout w/ the big "C". It meant the world to both of us. She often asks about you just as she did this morning. Your kindness and concern during that scary time really helped. Per your instructions, I'll give her a big hug when she gets home. No question she'll know it's come all the way from NZ.

We love you.

I am a relative newcomer to TRF, and have not spoken direct to you JJ. But I do feel I know you. I have found the warmth and good feeling from everyone here in the kind words and anecdotes to you a truely moving experience. I cannot begin to understand or empathise with the unfair hand you have been dealt, and all I can think about is a positive outcome for you in your ordeal.

Please be as positive as you can and take as much strength as you can from your loved ones and friends.

My thoughts are with you JJ

Paul

Hi JJ,
I lost my mom to Leukeamia in June 2009, she fought bravely for 14 months and fought tough till the end. She spent many months in and out of hospital often for lengthy chemo and blood transfusions. The treatment did knock her around, but She never once showed her family that she was scared and always tried to be up-spirited when we visited her.
Seeing her waste away in them 14 months was very very very hard to handle
I often question WHY was she taken away from us at the age of only 64???? And I'm still seeking an answer to this question..............

Mate, I pray for you and wish you all the best and I ask for a recovery for you. Get well soon.

Best Regards
Des
