Ol' Kentucky Home

What do you think of when you hear Kentucky?
Fried chicken?
Horses?
Bourbon?

I've been a proud Kentucky Colonel and resident since 1990. Found some swag to show off my fondness for the Commonwealth and Rolex.

Hi Dan,

Just one question: Why does the KFC we get in NZ taste so crappy?

No, I mean....seriously!! If KFC has a worldwide franchise, shouldn't there be some kind of international quality control to make sure their product remains up to the high standards they demand?

Over here, KFC is considered a "poor" man's food.....and is shunned by most of us. If we want great chicken, we visit NANDO's....but KFC is the absolute pits.

It's quite simple JJ, in NZ you guys are renowned for your sheep NOT your chickens.

Here's something you may find useful:
http://adultsheepfinder.com/

Maybe should you have NZFS (New Zealand Fried Sheep).

But seriously, the KFC here in Oz is much better than the crap I had in NYC as well as LA.

JJ,
Not sure if there is a difference from US KFC compared to yours. I don't eat much of it anyway. Damn cholesterol!
In my limited travels when people hear I'm from Kentucky they all seem to yell "KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN"! The one exception: the Delmar Racetrack in San Deigo. When they heard I was from the Bluegrass state, I was treated like a king. Even though I don't know much about the ponies.

Hi Dan, nice bike! That sure looks suspiciously like an IronMan kind of place in that first pic. . . and not Kentucky. But in keeping with the Kentucky theme, I'll post another of the Kid's bikes, also not very fast like yours. I'd throw up some BMX shots, but they're not related to Kentucky :(

And why is "Sweet Home Alabama" the them song for KFC commercials these days?
Now that's a hell of a question.

Thanks, I knew somebody would ask about that pic. It was taken last year when I climbed Mt Haaleakala in Maui. 10,000 feet. 5 hours, 4 minites up. Over 1 hour to get down. Damn near killed me. Not bad though for an old man with gray hair.

I stopped the family from using KFC (not that we did that much) when I read the "Frankenchicken" article in the New Scientist some years back.

Thanks MOTO. But it was 5 hours not 4. And it was the longest 5 hours of my life. But it was a real thrill.

JJ take a trip out to Salt Lake City, Utah actually South Salt Lake City where KFC was started, (No joke yes Utah really) where the first KFC is located you can eat all you want for $8.60 USD they have some silly statues of the Col. and a load of memorabilia. I don't eat KFC because the stuff is so bad for your health. I am told the chicken tastes great at that location. I had no idea that some man named Harmon started the chain and hired the Col. for P.R. purposes.

First: Kentucky Bourbon over Tennesee whiskey any day!

Second: "Cold Kentucky Rain" - Elvis Presley

Third: All this talk about Kentucky gets me thinking about the Applachians I grew up in.

Hot summers, but mostly dry with amazing thunderstorms. You know those days where its sunny and hot, and you're out at the swimming hole, but around 6 o'clock those icy cold breezes start blowing. You know what's up, so you head home, and after the furious mountain thunderstorm knocks out your power you eat dinner by candlelight, then fall asleep to the sound of thunder and the flashes of lightning.

Beautiful Autumns, where the leaves change color and transform the hills into artworks the likes of Van Gogh could not even begin to conquer. Apple Cider from a grocery store is blasphemy. Football and bratwurst come together to finish off a spectacular season, and Halloween and Thanksgiving are the icing on the cake.

Winter. Holed up next to the fireplace sipping a nice red wine, the silence that accompanies a good snowfall is your window to the outside world. Thick beer and thick sweaters keep you warm. And when you step outside, the lights glistening off the snow sparkle.

Spring brings new life. Birds are chirping. Trees and flowers are blossoming. Gradually, your wardrode becomes lighter and lighter. The scents of nectar and pollen arouse your nostrils and the crack of baseballs againts bats can be heard on cloudless evenings.

Sorry, but I have been very homesick for western PA lately. While its not Kentucky, I can relate

I am trying ot lose weight so I stay away from Fast Food. By the way, KFC has started to use O trans fat when frying there chicken to lower cholesterol. As a matter of fact, all restaurants are mandate to use it. This should stop the clogging of the artieries preventing a heart attack.

cbrenthus,
You've captured the seasons here to a T.

bran139,
I've played the Ragin Cajun bar in Evansville. Probably before you where born.
Anyway, I'm in Covington, just across the river from Cincinnati.
