Hi guys, I recently bought a Sub-c and was wondering should i send my Explorer for servicing?

I bought this in 2003 September and have not serviced it ever since. Its still working like a charm.

I talked to some people who told me something along the lines of "if it aint broke, dont fix". Whereas some people told me you should fix it before the problem happens, ie pre-empt larger problems that might occur to wear and tear of some parts.

What should I do? Thank you in advance.

I went through something similar a couple of years ago. I have the earlier version 14270, that has a great sentimental value for me (keeper for life), so eventhough it was running pretty much spot on I had it serviced when it was eleven years old. The watchmaker told me that there was some wear, and he replaced quite a few pieces. The watch was water resistant, but the crystal gasket was in bad condition. It did cost me some money, but made me feel good since the watch itself is important for me. This watch have been in daily (hard) use, and is now semi retired. (I still use it as intended, when I use it).

I pressure test all my watches every second year.

So, if you are going to keep it, and use it regularly I would:

1. Have it pressure tested immediately.
2. Have a service done (for peace of mind) within two years.

If you are planning to sell it, let the next owner have it serviced.

Hey Ace, thank you for your reply. This watch, similar to yours has great emotional value as it was my first watch, and first rolex, given by my father as a graduation gift. I will never sell it, so I guess I should have it serviced then!

Hi, If you got it in 2003 then it is only coming up for its first service now (first service can usually be left longer than subsequent services as far as I know). I would take it in when you get a chance, but don't rush out for it as it is not needed.

A lot of people here never service their watches but trust me, if you want to keep it for life and have it in top condition, you should get it serviced every 5 to 7 years. Just because it "works fine" does not mean there is nothing going on inside that needs attention.

You've had it seven years, so in my judgement, it's time to get it serviced.

The "don't fix it, if it ain't broke" crowd is misguided at best.

Preventive maintenance is good policy.

Ah right I see, I also thought that it was misguided to an extent as people get their cars serviced frequently as well, why not the same philosophy for a watch? Anyway, i am probably going to get it serviced soon, but since its not on my wrist, maybe when I get a new watch or something along those lines I can ask for a service together to get a nice deal or something.
