I am bored with my usual daily wine selection and looking for some new ones.

Please let me know if you have found any good REDS as of late. Preferably under $15.00.

I have recently been enjoying:

2008 Damillano Nebbiolo d'alba
2008 Icardi Barbera
2009 Apothic Red (Zin/Syrah/Merlot???)

My wife and I just had a bottle of Juan Gil. $14.95 at our local bottle shop. Very nice drop.

I'll give all of those a try with the exception of the Wal-Mart Oak Leaf as they cannot sell liquor in Colorado.

I used to drink tons of Aussie wines when I lived in Canada as their import tariffs favored Commonwealth countries over California wines. When I moved back here 7 years ago I started hitting the California producers almost exclusively. Been drifting into Spain and Italy a lot over the past year or two.

Keep the suggestions coming....

South African Cabernet Sauvignons are really underestimated and a good value. Cathedral Cellars 2006 is readily available in Canada at $14.95 and I have also seen it in some of the larger US chains.

Another decent South African buy is Graham Beck Cab or Shiraz.

There are some good buys from Portugal too. My new house wine is Vila Regia Reserva from the Douro region - make sure it's the Reserva - only a few bucks more than the regular, but much better.

We are still living in the sticks here in Denver and do not actually have a trader Joe's yet. We are eagerly awaiting IKEA this spring.

I hit the three buck Chuck everytime I visit friends in California or Chicago.

I live in the Napa Valley, so I can give you a few recommendations from my neck of the woods. These are some pretty decent wines for under $20 found on wine.com. In no particular order.

1) Hayman & Hill Napa Valley Merlot 2006
2) Duckhorn Decoy Red 2009
3) Whitehall Lane Merlot 2006
4) Rutherford Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
5) Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

1. Oyster Bay Pinot Noir. Sublime.
2. Louis Latour Morgon (Beaujolais).
3. Moulin A Vent (Beaujolais).

All worth a look.

you have a multiple thousand dollar watch and are looking for a $10 wine?

I think that there are some great whites in that price range, but with Reds...you really can't get great red for that range...

The only problem is, once you have an amazing red, it's very hard to go back..

Although Alcohol is much more expensive in Canada, so might be ok

I like amarone - Masi makes a great one.
2006 Tedeschi is also a killer.

For a nice deep california Cab sav - J.Lohr is good

I find a nice bang for buck is an argentinian Malbec - it has decent weight and some dry fruitiness, but certainly won't have the legs of an Amarone...

I love the Masi Campofiorine.

As far as the cheaper wine selections, I like having a nice stash of daily drinkers for when I do not necessarily want to tap into the good wines. We have a lot of friends who like wine but for whom a great bottle of wine is wasted.

Interesting question I get from a lot of people: "Why did you pay so much for that: (1) wine (2) watch?"

As far as the great wines, I am a member of the Zichichi Family Vineyards and Talty Estates wine clubs and have multiple cases cellared right now. If anyone is ever in Napa/Sonoma you should check out these small producers.

Trader Joe's sells an Italian table wine called "Sangiovese" (vola is also on label). It sells here for $2! It is equal to any $10 -$20 dollar Italian red I have ever had.

J Lohr sells some attractively priced cabs in the $15 range. Costco has them and they aren't bad.

I'd rather spend a few bucks more and go for a Justin Cabernet. I love the Paso Robles Cabs and Syrahs from Justin, Tobin James and Jada.

I'll second that as the economy choice. Had a glass of that a couple of weeks ago at a restaurant and it is pretty good.
