Polishing Panerai

Hey, guys

My PAM got some scratches and small dent on case, which starts me bothering so much. Should I go to Panerai AD and ask for polishing my precious or just local independent watch store to do?

Well, I think..

a. Independent shop : cheaper and faster service guaranteed. They have good references from customers
b. Pam AD : More reliable, I guess?

If you have done it before at anywhere, please share your thoughts with me on this matter. Thanks a lot!

Send it into Panerai- NYC. They usually do abrushing/polishing for a minimum charge. It's only gets pricey if there's a full/complete service involved. In either case- they always provide an estimate before commencing with any work.

My 88 came back to me after a complete service amd case refinishing after 3 weeks. Not sure if this is typical, but I was told 3-4 weeks when I sent it in to Panerai directly.

A year ago I dropped my 2 week old 112. It got a small ding on the crown guard but was keeping perfect time. I sent it to Panerai .......$1100.00 and 4 months later I got the damn watch back.
Oh and but it motivated me to get a 312....

Wow...4 months later? They only tale that long if there's something critically wrong with the movement- also, the $1,100 seems really high! Did you sent ot in through an AD, A Panerai boutique or to Richemont Technical Service in Dallas? I've found that when tou send it in through the boutique, you get much faster, more personalized service.

but in anycase, did you find the info you needed? what are you going to do, send it in to pasc or an AD?

my advise remains the same. Send it in to pasc, it will be well worth the wait. btw, what model do you have that you want to have refinished?

i have posted on two forums before just to get as much info as i could, but there was always someone around calling me out when i did! haha

Yes, I found the info. Thank you. A few days ago, I talked an agent in pasc. She asked me to pay $225 + shipping for polishing case. Plus, it will take around 3~4 months and maybe longer.

As I am not that patient guy, I decided to polish it by using a Flitz metal polish paste. 2 Dents and deep scratches are not showing in the picture, but they are still there. However, I felt so satisfied because It does look so clean..

I will do the major polish thingy in 5~6 years when it's the time to overhaul 312.

According to the paperwork I received with ny 312- maintenence service should be done every two to three years....FYI

Of course they want you to do it every 2-3 years. If it were up to them, they'd prefer once annually

If the movement is well made, and the watch is maintained properly, it should last up to 10 years before needing service.

No harm in Preventative care...
I'll choose to follow the recommended maintenance schedule, rather than have to deal with something major that could have been avoided.

5 years is what i fallow, either way nothing major can happen these days and it could go 10 years with some of these new oils companys use these days almost last forever and don't dry out.. back in the 40's 50's 60' 70's 80's 90's a service every 2 to 3 years made sense, but with the new materials in watches these days, they can last 4 times longer between service.

weather a watch is 2 years since last service or 5 years, the same service is performed, unless there is some damage out of the norm to the watch.. watch companys "suggest" key word is "suggest" you get your watch serviced every 2 to 3 years so they can make more money obviously. but if it gives the consumer a peace of mind then its worth it i say.

but in technical specs, you wouldn't believe some of the new stuff rolex does with their movements.. its amazing the things they come up with... IMO panerai, being new to in house movements still need some work to brush up on, but rolex IMO does some major R&D and comes up with some great things that they put into their watches.

a new rolex model with the new blue spring, those can go 10 years without service and still keep time just as good as the first day you bought it i bet you.

i would service my panerai sooner than i would service my rolex. but thats just me. call me crazyman!!
