Box Envy

is it me or are we entitled to better packaging? am i the only one who gets offened when i gaze upon a panerai polished wood box with hardware trimmings and a bezel protector that won't snap in two when i sneeze on it? dont get me wrong, the extra large rolex box with storage is nice and a great evolution from the old school cigarette packs but come on! with the price bumps, i want a better box, with a damn key!! am i being petty?

I agree with you, the presentation overall is fairly weak for the money! They could do better, but it is what it is. C'mon Rolex, spice it up a bit!

I agree, but I think there should be 4 different Box types, the SS box, the TT box & the WG/YG/RG then the special edition for Pearlmaster, Masterpiece & Cellini models... the SS box should be leather covered wood, the TT should be a polished wood, the WG/YG/RG has a built in winder, & the last would have a glass display with a crown key... I have a lot of time on my hands....

that would just be amazing, yes they should provide a better box for the price of the product, but then again like others have said, your boxes just sit inside another big box(cupboard,safe...etc) on the bottom somewhere

Even Renato gives you a nice black lacquer wood box.

Well, I shouldn't talk since I save all my boxes / outer sleeves etc... But a nice box is not a big deal to me since I don't use them for watch storage. I do prefer the leather / wood box my Y Series Sub came in Vs. the green plastic ones.

I don't wear the box, and I think that it's a bit tacky to have a Rolex box on the table for a conversation piece...

I do use a Ulysse Nardin box to toss paper clips and tacks in on my desk... Not sure that I really need a bunch of Rolex boxes sitting around taking up space..

A platinum watch... is a conversation piece... hide the box if you want, mine would be a shrine...

Cannot understand why perhaps its the high price, because deep down all Rolex Oyster movements except the chrono are just clones of the cal 3135.The only main difference in any are case style, type of metal, diamonds etc and the price.

I have to agree the box seems too ordinary. I got a really nice wooden box from a <$200 watch but if Rolex is going to up the price to include a nicer box then I rather just take the box they have now LOL

For the amount paid I see your point, but for me it doesn't really matter. The nicer box would still be on a shelf up high in a closet. I agree with tools essentially.
Ps the green box is better than the box my car came in, and it was a lot more expensive!

I'm with Larry as well on this one. Besides, when I look at the boxes that my Panerais came in, I have to wonder where my money went.

I would like to see a nicer box with Rolex, I think the green plastic boxes are cheap feeling and waaaaayyyyyy under par for the high quality product that is inside.

This being said, my boxes sit in a safe Panerai, Rolex... so it looks nice but in the end it doesnt really matter I guess

its all in the presentation. my boxes sit in the closet as well. however, if a winder was attached, it would be on top of my dresser. either way, for a product of this pedigree to be presented in a lessor fashion is doing the brand an injustice. IMO.

The Panerai I just bought, sure it came in a better box, however it's going to join all the rest of the watch boxes I have and it's going to go in the closet. I don't wear the box, I wear the watch.

I agree the box is substandard for watches at this price point. Even a less expensive brand, Longines has beautiful polished wood boxes for their Master Collection watches.

Don't see anything wrong with the current Rolex box. I would prefer them to spend time and effort on the watch not the box presentation.

How many people do you see walking around with their watch presentation box on his/her wrist?

In the 50-60s when someone bought a Rolex they used permanentely fix the Rolex around the wrist, throw away the outer box and the interior cards and use the interior wooden box as a cigar box
Much have changed since then...

For some reason even Hans Wilsdorf who was a master in marketing obviously never saw the box as something that should be exploited . With Rolex , it's the watch itself that gets the attention and is displayed on a stand in the window .. never the box unlike some other brands that seem to bring out more " limited " editions with special boxes and accessories than " regular" models .

I want my money to go into my watch, not in a box that sits on the closet shelf. The luxurious boxes that came with my Panerai and IWC weren't free; they were part of the price of the watch. I think it is great that Rolex does not make us pay for expensive boxes that most of us never use.

Have boxes from several different brands... I haven't seen any of them since purchasing them and storing them away in the basement. So what's it matter?
