Why is it...

...that when someone starts their sentence with "with all due respect" you can bet that the next words out of their mouth will be the most disrespectful you have ever heard?

When I'm giving my Boss a mouthful I firstly check that there's no-one else around & then say "With way more respect than you deserve right now........"

Or sometimes we have an imaginary line that we scrape out with our foot & then there's "no mark to overstep" & we really let rip.....!!

Reading that made me laugh because of what happened a couple of weeks ago in the office ..
There was a telephone conference meeting with our middle east region manager , one of the top french dogs in Paris and a couple of us in our department with the commercial director . We gave our point of view on a particular issue and were all thanked by the big one in charge .. I guess he must have assumed that we'd cut of the connection immediately .. because we were able to listen in to a most colorful bollocking given to the Middle East manager .. I assure you we now have a complete different image of that otherwise very distinguised french gentleman .. atleast we thought he was .

That is just like when strongly opinionated (and biased) TV journalists (?) start interview-sentences with "Some people may say....[fill in the non-fact-checked opinion here]... How do you respond to that?"

Well, it depends on how much respect you presume to be your due.

A literal interpretation of the statement is that the person addressing you is giving all the respect that is due (presumably from their standpoint), which may not be nearly enough.

I agree that the common interpretation and use of this phrase is to cushion a subsequent blunt statement, but it's not really a literal contradiction.

The best line of all time to get my blood boiling.... "just saying..."

Just saying what? Just saying you're going to poke up some sh!t and deny any blame when it hits the fan?

Lawd, I hate that lowlife cop-out expression. You got something to say, say it. Don't hide behind that cheeseball "just saying" bu!!sh!t.
