Travelling to Australia

I will be travelling to Australia (Tasmania) in a couple of months on business. Are there any advantages to purchasing here vs. USA and if so are there any ADs in this part of the country?

Hello Nick

Last year Rolex Melbourne told me that their guarantee was worldwide, and that Australia would honour it. Maybe this is a new development?

The exchange rate to US$ is not very favourable at the moment so

If you are specifically looking for new Rolex, buy one in HI.
Nick:
I was thinking of going to HNL for a vacation in 2008. Just curious as to why you have said HI is the place to buy. If I bought one there, I could get it duty free, but I'm not sure about bringing it back here.

I was there last year and looked at buying a new watch, thinking I might save some cash. After the tax was dropped there was no real advantage and in fact I worked out it was cheaper to buy on the way out of the UK and drop out VAT (17.5%).

I think you'd be better purchasing in the USA.

Thanks for the feedback, looks like I'll plan on buying here.

Rob, the only advantage might be in Oz you can buy a new Rolex tax free (11% off), however that might be outweighed by the greater discount you could get in the States from what you might be able to get in Tasmania.
I didn't know there was an AD in Tasmania, but there well could be. Lets just say I haven't heard of anyone getting a great deal in Tassie on a new Rollie. However, if you are going to Tassie, then you must be going to Melbourne as there are no international flights directly from Hawaii to Tassie are there?
What model are you interested in anyway?
