Could it be because he compares Rolex to Invicta, in the favor of Invicta?

He writes excellent reviews and has written some cool stories, such as his tour of the AP factory. Knows his stuff.

Rolex legal is an autonomous machine that goes after anybody with threats and a letter campaign who has Rolex in their title...

John has voluntarily complied with Rolex Terrorism..

(whether his "reviews" are any more than superficial fluff is open to discussion)

It's kind of interesting the way different companies operate. Ford Motor Company has customer service people who post on various Ford forums in an attempt to be proactive in helping owners with issues.

It's only RUSA that is working like this. In Europe Rolex are little more laid back.

I feel like Rolex has an "our way or the highway" attitude toward it's customers. They don't care if people like us don't like some of the things they do because we are the minority. Even so, we just keep buying them lol

Does Rolex realize sites like this promote their product and encourage sales? Maybe they should take that into consideration.

My guess is their legal team have been given marching orders by the Rolex marketing dept. to do everything they need to do to protect their brand identity, without prejudice.

It's a shame society has become so litigious

It may be that the other site and its owner drew attention by being more commercial orientated writing and promoting books , links to other websites and on line watch sales . TRF has no commercial banners nor activity besides the adds on the for sale section .
There are far more Rolex for sale on Ebay and craigslist and they are still there .. at least no chance of having a fake one listed here .

Who said that TRF has not received any pressure by RUSA or Rolex S.A. only Stevo hasn't given in and is not telling us ?

It is my understanding that Rolex legal has intervened here a couple of times in the past over people selling non-authorised items with Rolex trademarks and making money from it. I'm sure Rolex don't mind us discussing the brand, but making a profit on their intellectual property is a big no-no

Look at it this way.....

Rolex has a full time staff of attorneys and they are hell bent on keeping the Rolex name to themselves. They have the money and resources to protect the Rolex name at all cost. This probably came about with all of the fake Rolex watches, accessories, etc, that are being produced in the world, causing Rolex to close ranks on any use of the Rolex name. This affects everyone who is using the Rolex name, some use it for theft and some use it for a web site. It only takes some evil act to destroy what others are doing right.
If you look at the newer dealer displays they have "property of Rolex" on the item so it cannot be sold, however they are sold and if Rolex wants it back they will get it back even if the new owner has removed the tag.
Submariner, DateJust, Explorer, Sea Dweller, Air King, etc are all name brands of Rolex, they are also protected from being copied. Back in the 1970's and before Rolex never had a problem of being copied so you will not see much Rolex items with some sort of Rolex hallmark. All the newer stuff has the Rolex hallmark to show it is real and if they do not want it sold they will have their name on it as being the owner.
I am really baffled by people who are upset at Rolex keeping a vice on their name, it is a reality that they own it so they are protecting it, keeping counterfeiters from using it. Look it at this way, how would you like someone to steal you identity and use it around the world making money off of you? The law is black and white, and not gray, if Rolex takes some business to court for fake Rolex stuff, you can bet they have a solid case against the business and they will win at any cost.
Case in point, a business person was making fake China Rolex watches, Rolex went after them, impounding millions of dollars in fake watch parts, watches, they had working capitol, personal property. All of that was impounded, the fake stuff destroyed, the money, property was claimed to be used for the illegal enterprise, and the business owners were put in prison for a decade. Now if that was your identity theft would you be pleased with the results.

The problem with this line of reasoning is that it assumes that talking or writing about a brand, including its name, is protected against legally. That is false. I can write all day long about Frigidaire or Coke or Kleenex, and obviously Rolex, so long as I don't do so in ways that can be pursued legally for infringement or other ways to cause economic harm (defamation and so on). This is entirely separate from selling goods that are counterfeit. Speech, including published text, is not the same as hard goods, a very basic concept.

It would take an unusual set of circumstances for a brand to be able to bully a website out of business, more than chat about a brand in fairly normal context.

Rolex has made case in point on several web sites, weather it be a chat site or a site that sells and promotes fake Rolex items, again, I am saying that Rolex has counterfeiter problems and they have taken the extreme side of the defense here.

Extreme is understandable, and not unique. VERO, WIPO, all IP orgs. exist for just this issue, but it can't stomp on discussion per se that doesn't have injury associated with it.

The question is where the line is drawn between "fake Rolex merchandise" and swag that's made in tribute and doesn't actually represent anything and isn't sold.

Rolex S.A. and especially RUSA can request the courts to implement the laws as much as they want . RUSA has US TM laws on their side and controls the import of Rolex goods onto US soil .
However the counterfeiting activity within the US is negligible compared to the counterfeiting giant PRC where they have no legal foothold as such . They are fighting a loosing battle if you ask me .
