Antique Rolex Chronograph

Saw one today I wanted it! -real beauty but not for sale. It was from the 40's or 50's, non oyster and had two sub dials - was stainless steel with snap back. Any one know where I might find one?? Aproximate cost??

This a good site for ref vintage Rolex but start thinking telephone number prices now, some of the less rare models around £10000-£12000.

Thanks for your response. I had no idea they would run that high. On the site you mentioned they have one in 18K - price £50000!

No problem glad to help but now most of the vintage Rolex watches command very high prices.Even in the 40s-to early 60s they were expencive for a chronograph. You could buy lesser known brands, with exactly the same movement for a third of the price. So they were very poor sellers at the time,so not many of them around now. Rolex did not produce there first ever in-house chronograph movement till 2000. Before they used ETA valjoux later the Zenith El-Primo and from early 2000 there own inhouse movement.

Also wondering if you would know what is the difference between the ref 4100 and 3484 Rolex Antimagnetic chronograph? I have seen photos of both and they look the same - would the reference # refer to the year of production ?
