Is it worth it......?
Hi All,
I HAD a chance to get a BNIB with random serial on exp II white for a premium price. I think it's about +$300 more than the other sellers are offering here. I waited and waited and missed my chance. Ever since then, I found myself always looking for the one that got away. So, is it worth it to get a random serial number on discontinued piece (ie. sub lv, exp II) and pay little more extra (i.e $200-500)? or just forget the whole serial number debacle as long as it's new..?? Any thoughts? |

Long term I think it just won't matter. So many Explorer IIs have been produced that I doubt any of them will ever become collector's pieces. Great way way underrated Rolex though! Best fiting Rolex I have ever owned.

Mate, forget the serial # debacle. Given the 16570 is recently discontinued you will pick up a NOS/BNIB from a trusted seller here for considerably less, or you can walk into a AD in Aus and pay way more than you have too.
I see very good examples of the 16570 being offered on this forum currently. If new BNIB and random serial # is that important to you, get to a AD now to secure what you want, if they still have any in stock. The LV will be a little more difficult as is has been discontinued a for over 12 months. If you have the funds, procrastination will do you no good, hence your post. All the best for the future. |

Don't worry about the serial number. It is just a number, afterall... Padi should be along shortly to offer his opinion on the matter.

Every watch that is discontinued sees a short-term spike in prices on the Internet..
For some reason there are some who think that the "last" of a product becomes more valuable... Historically this has not been proven to hold up though... So, no, do not pay a premium at this time for the last of the Explorer II's; there are plenty around for MSRP or less.. In about 6 months everybody will be asking for a premium and so then you want to wait until the spike dies down....

Absolutely NOT worth a premium Should not have an issue getting a discount on a EXP II as mentioned, it is not a fast seller

The Explorer II isn't discontinued yet, ADs will have availability until probably September, if not a bit longer

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll keep it in mind that it's only a jumbled up numbers...
I guess I was a little bit unclear and shouldnt use the word "premium". What I meant was, with the random serial on white expy II I still got a discount but the discount was not as much as the M/V serial. Net price on random serial was about $400 more. |

I wouldn't pay $400 more just for a random serial with both being BNIB from AD
