Thinking about joining the Rolex Family
Over the years I have been a Tag & Breitling owner, and now my wife wants to buy me a new 41 mm Datejust II 116333. She has a deposit on it at the "old" price. Looks like a beautiful watch, but I am choking on the price. I have never owned a Rolex before, so not sure what to expect and thinking it may be a little extravagant for every day wear. anybody have any thoughts for a possible newcomer to the Rolex family?

Well, I bought my first Rolex 3 years ago and choked on the price. Up to that point I had an Omega, which was very nice, but not up to Rolex Standards. IMHO I think it's worth the plunge for wearing enjoyment as long as you appreciate fine craftsmanship. Once the pain of paying for it fades, you'll just have a great watch to appreciate. They just keep going up in price which helps protect the resale value. Make sure you try it on and feel comfortable with your choice. Of course you realize, your wife will need a nice Rolex too...ha! Good Luck and welcome to the forum. Cheers

Thanks
Thanks for the feedback, told wife I would love it, heading out tomorrow to pick it up. Also, thanks for the heads up on future purchases, I might make at a little better price in the future. As far as this one goes, I will let here do the shopping and be happy, as I will be I am sure.

First off welcome to TRF and soon to be "club" member.
It is only money, just joking. Once you have a Rolex on your wrist and feel it and look down at your wrist you will understand what it is all about. Words cannot describe the feeling.

dont be scared about the price enjoy it. you gotta have at least 1 rolex.
It is expensive but you cant go wrong with it. there are plenty of models and variations for you to choose from. the DJII is probably not meant for daily wear but is still very durable. good luck |

It was the second most expensive purchase of my life, after a car. (And more expensive than all my previous cars!) For the first few months it didn't leave my wrist once, and now it only comes off to put on one of the other watches I've been lucky enough to acquire since then. Once it has been on your wrist for a week you'll feel naked without it! |

Just do it!!! (as long as you can afford it)
I was actually at an AD 2 days ago looking at the black face stick dial DJII. Beautiful watch I must say. And remember, pics or it didn't happen!

Congrats on your upcoming purchase. I find that "cost per wear" makes things like this tolerable: wear the bejeepers out of it, and soon you'll be convinced that it's a great value!

The DJII is absolutely a daily wear watch.. as much as any of the so-called "sport" models... unless you plan on diving to 4000 feet, that is!!
Wear it in good health.
