Not too popular in the US, but more popular in Europe. Why? Good question.

I think the opposite is true
America is the "mother" of all Rolex steel & gold ownership.
One time in the past "two-tones" represented 80% of the US sales.

One mans meat is another mans poison and SS are nice and TT are nice and Gold are nice and if we all liked the same thing then the world would be a boring place to live in .

It has nothing to do with people saying stupid things like people who wear TT cant afford Gold , or that people who wear SS cant afford TT etc etc .

TTs are wanted on the secondary market , it is just that most people that post on here prefer the sports models which are probably more popular in SS .

The 4 most iconic rolex watches are IMHO

1 SS sub
2 TT datejust with jubilee and fluted bezel
3 SS daytona
4 18K president

as you can see there is bits of everything amongst these watches .

So please stop talking and love and wear what you have in good health guys

Au contraire my dear Myron
The US is the number one buyer of two tones.
In Europe they dislike them with passion and Rolex S/Steel rules.
Prices for used T/Tones there (?)
are selling between... "give them away" to unsaleable..

Well IMHO with watches like the S.Steel Daytona simply fashion and the S.Steel was hard to get at retail at one time.So perhaps in the Daytona it was the fact of owning a watch that was at the time a sort of status symbol because it was very hard to get. While the TT could be found at most ADs for under retail with far more dial options too.

TT is a dated 80's look, and you are just advertising the fact that you can't afford the full gold version.

And while I'm at it I think you can only pull off a full gold watch with gold bracelet if you are Tony Soprano or Elle Macpherson.

A gold watch with leather strap is hot though, not too over the top.

Stick with SS, it rules!

I think that's a big part of it. TT bracelets with age are in worse shape then SS and can cost more then the watch is worth to replace.

+1 That is the reason the TT watches are so much cheaper. More stretch in the bands because of the gold and SIGNIFICANTLY higher cost to replace a TT band to extend the watch,s life without going to a strap.

I was looking to replace the band on my TT 16013 DJ and was quoted a price of 4K. WTF, that was more than the watch was worth. I decided to send It off to Michael Young instead. While I like the TT look with some things,I still prefer the SS models overall. So, that is definitely something to consider when deciding on SS vs.TT vs. precious metals.

Or that you value durability over bling. Possibly for some price is not THE factor.

I don't think it says that at all. Time has shown that all things considered, SS is the best material for a watch. Look, durability. Obviously price is a factor, but regardless of this not everybody wants a gold watch.

I think gold only works in certain circumstances, SS always looks great.

I don't dislike TT Rolexes, but prefer SS. Truth is, when I think of "too tone" watches, I picture a hairy chested 65 year old guy from Long Island who reeks of Pierre Cardin, sporting a ridiculous dyed black comb-over.

Oh crap, that's my stepfather Marty! (who won't wear any watch that's NOT
TT, they go well with his 70's leisure suits, he's vintage.)
