I DID IT , got my grail !!!!

It's been more than 1 year since my hunt started. Couldn't get one at list, not that I was expecting one at list.
So from the beginning I was expecting to pay 2 times listprice

but that didn't work. I felt bad when I saw them for sale at 4 times the list price. 4 times

That was above my budget

The last 4 months I searched for one every day, and prices always were between 3 and 4 times listprice

That got me thinking ... If I ever wanted one, I would have to pay a lot more than I was hoping for .... damn 3.5 times the listprice

But, a grail is a grail and since they won't get cheaper I convinced myself to pay more
Than I got some luck, I was offered a 339 ( 47mm Radiomir Marina Militare 8 days composite), which is a limited sought after piece too
I got in contact with somebody who had MY GRAIL and I knew he wanted the 339 and could not get one

So we made a deal, I gave him my 339 and some cash, I got his watch

AND SINCE YESTERDAY I HAVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess you all know which extremely sought after Panerai I am talking about

yes, the one that was made for the die hard paneristi, VIP's, top clients and probably some lucky bastards. I didn't belong to any of these groups but got is anyway.

Such a gorgeous pieces ! not because some say it was made for a community but because IMO it was Panerai who made something special for their most faithful clients.
You know, something like Rolex would make 1 special edition submariner only for a very few members from well known sites and some of their most faithful own clients

Pictures ?

they will follow but be patient, I had to be patient a very, very long time

exactly !!
I don't share that community feeling but that Panerai 360 is imo a very special PANERAI watch !
At the end it was Panerai who made it for Panerai clients

Congratulation. It's a nice watch. It must really mean a lot to you to swap it for a 339. Enjoy.

Beautiful watch, I'd love one, tried one on a couple of weeks ago at Ian Blowers!! He had it at £14500!!!! For that money I'd rather have my grail a PAM 127.

Believe me, £ 14.5K is a VERY good price
Sounds expensive for such a simple Panerai but all of those I saw for sale were sold for much more ... think about £ 18K

But the deal with the 339 made it a bit cheaper for me, otherwise I would have bought the 360 from Ian Blowers

BTW, his 360 was sold after 2 or 3 weeks, another indication that his £ 14.5K was pretty cheap

Great watch but I think it was a bad trade, value wise (strictly speaking). Putting emotions to the side for a moment, that 339 is a pretty rare and special piece........to give that up plus cash for what you got, doesn't make sense to me..........but that's just me. Don't get me wrong..........your watch is beautiful but for the money spent, I think the 339 you traded or the upcoming 386 would have been the way to go.

Just my two cents...............you got your Grail and that's all that matters.

Enjoy!!!!!!!

I understand your point of view

But when you say the 339 is rare and special I can't agree
Ofcourse it is rare but they'll make 1500 pieces and ONLY 300 of the 360
so the 360 is much more rare

and when you look at secondhand prices, the 360 is much more expensive than the 339

But I agree, it is strange that a simple Panerai with Unitas movement is more expensive than an inhouse 8 days Marina Militare

I guess the fact that this Panerai 360 was made for collectors makes it more sought after and that's why the price is so insane

If Rolex would make 300 special SS submariners for their most loyal clients I'm pretty sure this special sub would also by much more expensive than a gold and more complicated Daytona. The price of these watches is driven by passion , it isn't logic anymore

How have Ian Blowers managed to get one to sell? I think that is very sad.

I think it is a real shame that people are selling these for such high prices. If they really felt the "community spirit" they would sell them for the price they paid.

You are clearly very passionate about the watch and the brand and shouldn't have had to paid so much for it. I understand that is how things are, I just it was different.

Ian had already 2 . So did other greymarket dealers.
Others were for sale via this forum, other forums and even a few were sold via Ebay or chrono24. That's life

Can't blame them

Ofcourse it would have been better for me if I had it at listprice but I am glad they are for sale - for too much money - but at least I was able to buy one

About the community feeling, I can not agree here. It is a watch and nothing more. I like the Paneristi site but I don't buy the 'community crap'
Let's be honest, if you got one, would you have sold it to me at list ? I don't think so

If a watch is so valuable there will always be poeple who choose for the money. Besides, I sold that 339 also for a premium
I used it to make my grail cheaper

So when somebody sells his 360 to fund his grail, I don't think he does something wrong.
If somebody wants an Egiziano and can't afford it but he was lucky to score a 360. And now he can trade his 360 for an Egiziano, why wouldn't he ?
