Looking at a Rolex but Panerai came in...

So I was in a AD for Rolex looking at mainly at 3 potentials: Deepsea, GMTiiC, and the Sub nd COSC. Well after looking at those and choosing which one I really liked I decided to venture away from the rolex section and into the Panerai section.

When I looked at Panerai's thru the glass it didnt really hit me, but when I put it on...Wow!! I was astounded at how great Panerai's are. I told the jeweler, "wow, I came in here for a Rolex and now Panerai just swoops in to brainwash me." The jeweler chuckled and said, "trust me. your not the only one thats done this."

I never knew how great Panerai's are. They are much better in person. Dont remember what model it was but it was a 40mm almost carbon fiber looking dial.

I ended up leaving confused and not knowing which timepiece I wanted. hahaha

Give it time and come back to it. However there are quite a few watches out there that are really nice. That is why many of us here own more than just one watch.

I too was a 100% Rolex person for 20 years, and since owning the PAM 351, I am hooked. MUCH larger presence on wrist, little more unique (certainly than my Sub which I see a ton of), and just flat out comfortable.

I would go back and try on several other Panerai and compare them side by side with Rolex. Either way, you will most likely end up with both in your collection at some point. Let us know what you decide.

A little of this, a little of that. This N That, not such a bad way to go.

.... .
I've been wearing a PAM 164 on an OEM alligator strap with tang buckle since last Saturday afternoon, and I agree completely. Very comfortable wearing watch.

The one that caught my eye at the store was a 40mm Luminor Power Reserve. The Dial with the "Paris hobnails" was what got me. Kind of a carbon fiber look but much more detailed...Pam00241

Here is a link of the timepiece. (the website is in japanese/chinese/?? but it shows the detail of the watch)....

PAMs are great and they compliment Rolex watches very well. My only advice next time you go to the AD is to try on the 44mm. It is considered the standard Luminor size, and after you get used to it...it wears perfectly.

Good luck in your search!

yep... that happens to me all the time, from going in looking at rolex, and other watches. and i end up seating down trying on panerai even though i didn't even want to look at them. Now i own one, so i fell for the panerai trap.

That is a very nice looking PAM. You better be careful while browsning or you will end up with both.
