Pull the Trigger on a GMT Master II?
I'm not new to this level of watches, sort of... My first was a Omega Seamaster GMT and then a Seiko Ananta GMT (see the trend here?). My current favorite watch is an IWC pilot chrono.
So I'm considering a GMT Master. I've really enjoyed having the GMT function when traveling abroad and I like the watch. But-- do I spend this much for watch? The IWC was about $5k and that was a tough decision. Of course my AD is warning of a price increase (and this website confirms it). Today I tried on a steel and gold GMT Master... it's all the AD has in stock. I don't want the gold.. I'd just go for SS. Still, it sure looked good on my wrist. I'm trying to get a sense of what it'd be like to wear a rolex. I'm a pediatrician with a very definitely middle class and lower middle class practice. Just about nobody notices the Omega, Seiko, or IWC, but folks do notice Rolexes. I don't want to look pretentious but I really like the watch! I know you folks can't decide for me (and I'm sure you'll tell me to go for it), but I guess I need some sort of feedback... What's it like to wear a rolex? |

Great watch, I have the GMT II and the GMT IIc But, buy it for yourself

The 16710 with the black bezel is more under the radar than the IWC pilot chrono. Its thinner and way more comfortable as well.
By the way I've seen that IWC on the kevlar strap & it looks amazing. |

man, it really IS a great looking watch!
i am not into the newer case at all - but for some reason (maybe the bezel font or polished center link or something) i am more willing to accept it on the GMT than the Sub....and i generally prefer the Sub model over the GMT, so just goes to show how much of a looker the new one REALLY is!!! |

People who really matter take you for how you conduct yourself and not for the possesions that you own.
However you have to be comfortable with your decision, if you can't get beyond your concerns then don't do it. If you can get beyond this, then I think you will find it to be one heck of a great watch. I have yet to have anyone notice any of my watches.

A Question: what's a GMT IIc vs one without the 'c'?
I presume this refers to the ceramic bezel. If so, is the one without a ceramic bezel an older model? On the rolex website, I only see ceramic offered. If there's an option, what's the advantage of ceramic? My Ananta has a ceramic bezel that seems unscratchable... |

C is new model with ceramic bezel...what your AD will have in stock. The original GMT (see pic above from EDT3) has smooth bezel (will have to buy used if that's what you want).
Go on...get one... I deal with Dr's everyday (I own two funeral homes) trying to get you guys to sign death certificates...they mainly wear Rolex (mainly Sub or GMTII's) or Panerai. Don't worry about what others think...go get it! |

The GMT is such a classic choice. A great life companion. I'd suggest to not buy at AD but buy used here on TRF, save some money, expect to pay at least $6K for a used one though.

People judge you on the way you treat them, if you treat them with respect they will respond in kind. No one chooses their doctor on the basis of the watch they wear. Personally, I would prefer a doctor who is successful. Rolexes, and the other trappings of wealth, are a sign of success and not something of which to be ashamed.
I am a professor, and now an administrator, and there is this reverse snob thing in academia where most people wear cheap watches and use the issue pens, etc. I am not rich but I like a Mont Blanc pen and wear Rolex (or IWC, JLC, etc) watches. I consider it my style and my choice. Enjoy your Rolex, you have earned it. T |

The GMT's a very comfortable watch. Between the 16710 & 116710, I prefer the former. I have the option to switch bezel inserts & bracelets.

Good luck Doc! If they ask, you can Dayton bought it pre owned and got great deal. The GMTIIC is a very understated watch. No one but watch lovers will even notice the all SS model.
