Here you go from wikipedia: The term gilding covers a number of decorative techniques for applying fine gold leaf or powder to solid surfaces such as wood, stone, or metal to give a thin coating of gold. A gilded object is described as "gilt".

Not joking, still new here and had seen several ad's saying a gilt "GMT or whatever watch" thanks for the info. Still learning

Gilt is similar to gold inlaid technique of metal working. It's applying gold leaf over metal in case of dials you'll often see gilt dials in older watches. Might be similar to gold plating somewhat
