Welcome to TRF.
Chances are in order to get your watch insured you will need to get someone to appraise it first anyway. I'mno expert but I think you might be talking about $2,500 to $3000.

Very nice watch. Did it come with an Oyster bracelet as well? If not, the value would be decreased somewhat.

I thought it would be worth more than that. Havnt found an exact model anywhere on the internet. I'm based in the uk, any ideas on where to get it appraised?
Thanks Duncan |

I would take it to a Rolex AD if I were you. They may charge you for the service but you can always call ahead and find out how much that might be.

Unless you can agree a replacement price, on a new for old basis I think you'd
have to insure for the current model 'Heritage' price |

I have a full package Tudor Oysterdate so the one with the Rolex back and Rolex crown with Oyster bracelet and this was £2,200 which I think was a fair price just a few months ago.
But I would always insure for more.... so say £2,500 for mine. The Prince date does not have the Rolex branded components so probably £1,600 - £1,800 for insurance as Peter has stated above would be about right. |

If it had a oyster bracelet price would be around £1800- £2000 but with strap around £1500-£1800 a bit more for insurance.

The Rolex AD may be able to give you a close appraisal say tell them it's for a trade-in value then up that by at least 50% that should be just right. But you can insure to 2x the appraised value so in case you lose it you can always buy a replacement. Now the question is if an insurer is willing to insure at your desired replacement value.

Need to know the serial number letter. If its a B serial number then its a good chance its a late 1990's model, pre tiger, with rolex crown & caseback & a squared clasp with tudor word written on it. If its an H serial number then, around 1999/2000 onwards, its probably post tiger & would probably (but not guaranteed) have had a tudor crown & caseback, but could have possibly been changed to rolex parts. The later H models had a rounder clasp holding the strap & the tudor logo on it.

the serial number is B890XXX its a late 90's model that was bought in 2001. it has the tudor crown and case back, the strap is black leather and has tudor written on the clasp with the logo beneath.
the lumination has faded so it is does not 'glow in the dark' other than that it is in perfect condition. was thinking about taking it to rolex to the a new face with illumination but was worried that this may affect its value. |

suggest to check on chrono24.com under tudor chronographs, you should be able to get a value range from there.

they dont have any pre tiger prince date tudors on chrono24. they have tiger's and have older oysterdates but dont have anything else.
I'm guessing its rare since i cant find an exact example anywhere. |

I don't think the lack of an Oyster bracelet makes a difference in value. The leather strap w/ SS solid end links and deployant clasp, just like those found only on the precious metal Daytona's, are highly sought after on their own. I would agree the unique color versions in yellow, red, and green might hold less value though.
Congrats and enjoy your great chrono! dP

a 79280, pre tiger Prince Date, rolex crown & caseback on original blk leather strap with correct tudor clasp, white dial, blk subdials & numerals, B series, no papers, sold about 4 months ago on ebay, took around 12 months to sell, for just under US2.9k. Hope that helps.

A picture of the watch from the OP would be helpful.
A service receipt from Rolex always lists replacement value in case of loss or damage (for a current or similar model) and it's usually a bit surprising! Since this replacement value is from the manufacturer, the insurance carrier should accept it. Example of mine; Tudor Sub 79090 replacement value $17,000 Rolex TT Datejust 16013 = $9,000 Tudor Tiger 79280 = $7,000 dave

Are insurance companies THAT easy?
I purchased my 79090 for £1,800 last year, minty, original and complete. A valuation to state that a £12,000 replacement value seems to be just nonsense. I can't see how an insurance company would be soft enough to pay this out without investigating the true value.

1400 to 2000 pounds depending on the seller. Insurance companies wont pay more than the market replacement value (if you are lucky!)

Most insurers will want a current written appraisal if you're insuring over £5k

I agree that the above replacement value as stated by Rolex is really high.
However, if I produce this written document to my insurer and I am willing to pay the higher premium based on the estimated value, I am certain the insurance carrier will be more then happy to accept my payment. dave

Well I bought an Oysterdate in imaculate condition with the complete full package etc for £2,200 just a month or so ago. So I would be very surprised if that sells for anything like $11k.

Agree and yours has a bracelet and not a strap that when bought originally new was quite a bit cheaper.
