OK, going a bit crazy
I already have a Sub 16610 (that my wife uses), a SD 16600, a DSSD, Exlorer 21470 (still plastic on it...) and a vintage 5513 in the Rolex sport section of the collection.
I was thinking about getting white gold Day-Date/President or perhaps one of those new super-sized Explorer II's, but then I just stumble upon this mint Z-series GMT Pepsi complete!? I need an older case sport Rolex as much as I need another hole in my head, but it such a classic piece. I really don't want to buy them all. What to do here? The Explorer 39mm is going anyhow, probably the 5513 as well if I can find the right buyer (I'll go back to vintage when I'm vintage myself). One voice of reason on my shoulder says put it all towards something like that Day-Date - it is a type of watch you don't have, great low-key and understated piece to use at the office etc. Another voice is saying, why spend that cash, get the Pepsi instead and be happy!? I know, it is a true luxury problem to have, I'm not complaining, just a bit confused tonight. Need to make a decision in the AM. And go back to focus on preparing my presentation for tomorrow. Cheers mates! |

Well, haven't you sort of filled the precious metal casual/dress watch niche recently with something octagonal and rosy? :)

Oh well, there is that other section of the collection... ;-) Not a very good daily driver though. A Day-Date in WG with a neutral dial like white or silver is rather understated, even compared to a pepsi GMT.

I think you have answered your question... You really want the wg dd. I say go for it. If this is what your after and you temporarily scratch the itch with the exp 42 or the pepsi you will just end up getting the dd in the future and a higher price no doubt. Grab the dd, I think it would be an awesome daily watch for around the office and being wg will slip under the radar

I can understand not liking the look of yg, but unless you really need the day of the week displayed on your dial... it just is too similar to the steel DateJust to justify the paying 3 to 4 x the price for... in my opinion the steel GMT is money better spent...

That's me. If I was driving a BMW M5 I would remove the signs saying M5. :-)

You can get the Pepsi now....but in the end, something tells me that you are going to be left wanting for something gold; don't know if it will be the white gold Day-Date/President....but it will be something gold.
PS: Just a feeling

Oh trust me, I have my fair share of stress, challenges and deeper problems. Watches, their history and manufacturings, becomes a way to escape, albeit for a short time, from other aspects of life. Now please cue Depeche Mode "Try walking in my shoes"...

I'd go with the WG DD for the very reasons you mentioned above. I've been searching for a DD (in WG only) for a while now but unfortunately they don't seem to be as readily available as the YG... but I can wait. Good luck.

Pepsi is the way to go, Patrick. I think it will be a great watch to add to your current collection!
