Scratches on GOLD !

This is pissing me off i recently bought my first rolex, a TT Blue Sub and I keep getting all these little scratches and things on the bracelet on the gold part ! I need soem advise on how to deal with this, i know i can polish it in a couple years when it needs sevice, btu how much can you polish it before there is a notisable difference or is there something i can do to hide the scratches on the gold?

you can only polish it with some kind of polishing material. If you polish the watch all the time you are going to damage the gold on your bracelet. This one reason why i hate TT watches. Gold is softer than steel and it can be easily scratched. The best thing to do is to learn to live with a few scratches. You cannot avoid them

Yes, gold as well as any other metal will scratch. It's a fact of life when wearing watches. Proper polishing can remove most scratches and a little touch-up here and there is ok, but keep in mind every time you polish you will loose material. Not a great trade off in my mind. I myself just try to be as careful as possible and enjoy my watches and try not to worry so much when I get minor scratches. I know at service time they will come back fine and then I could repeat the process!

Yes seems reasonable, but If i am constantly cleaning it with the soft cloth included by rolex when you buy the watch does it affect the metal and gold on the breacelet? or should i just not be cleaning it so much lol

Don't want scratches? Get a tungsten carbide watch. I've got a Movado Valor that has a true mirror finish that is stunning. However, even though it is one of the hardest, if not the hardest metal (nevermind, it's chromium), I'm still worried that I'll screw it up. It's seen a decent amount of wear and still looks brand new.

Get a Cape Cod cloth. This will remove the fine scratches on the gold portion of your bracelet. Just don't use it on the brushed portion of the bracelet, unless you want it polished as well.

hmm very interesting but please explain this more in detail, i dont know what is the brushed portion of the bracelet, and could I use this an unlimited amount of times or what happens if i use it too much

The center links (gold) are polished to a mirror finish. The rest of your bracelet is stainless steel and has a brushed finish. The Cape Cod cloth restores the mirror finish to polished surfaces, whether it be gold or SS. You don't want to use it on brushed SS or it will polish it to a mirror finish as well. I hope I'm making sense. Here's a link to Cape Cod cloth. You can also get them on eBay for just a few bucks.

WENOL multimetal polish on the gold of the bracelet. removes all those fine scratches.Polished it once after 4 months wearing.

Yes, it's true. They're hollow.

not all of them. The Anniversary GMT has solid center links. As well as (I think) the TT daytona.

All gold center links will eventually be solid. Rolex is heading that way.

Omar, on my TT Blue sub I use an old toothbrush and some colgate toothpaste on the center links and you'd be surprised how good it shines up and as far as I can tell there is no wear on the gold like polish does. It won't take out all the scratches but it shines it up real nice, in my opinion. Besides it smells colgate clean too! :)


I've had my TT blue for 15 months now and I have just come to accept the scratches and I'll get it all buffed out when its serviced in a few years. I say wear yours proudly and don't sweat the scratches.

They come in pairs in case you wear it out too soon.

Your watch will always sparkle - they have the added benefit of doubling as a buffing cloth.

Well, I'd just leave those scatches alone! After all, Rolex is meant to be worn, and scratched cannot be avoided, not even on SS Rolex watches.

Anyway: As I wrote, I'd leave the scratches alone and only have your Rolex polished up every 5th. year or so when you get it serviced. Always always let a RSC do this for you!

We have one member here, "Wandyprawira" (Wandy) a really nice guy btw!, who had very bad experience with using Cape Cod on his SS Sub Date. He tried to remove a scatch from the lug of his watch, but kept on doing it over and over again, until the watch was deformed, literally making Cape Cod to "Shape Odd"

Now, consider that HIS watch was in all STEEL! And then consider that Cape Cod can do with GOLD!

Try to look at it this way: scratches cannot be prevented, and could also be seen as "patina" that is UNIQUE. Just wear your Rolex in good health!
