This Forum. Important Message

In additon to this forum I belong to a Mercedes Owners forum here in the UK. Its purpose is to bring together like minded individuals to discuss all things Mercedes and associated topics. Naturally there are discussions and help sections which you would think we be great wouldnt you if you ran a Merc and sometimes needed an experienced ear to listen to and offer advice????
NOT ON YOUR NELLY!
I have never known such a bunch of stuck up, self richeous, pompous gits in all my life. a simple question often ends up with a response akin to 'Oh, dont you know the answer to that? You should do cos we all do. Go to a main dealer and ask them'
TOSSERS!

However, this forum is a different kettle of fish. I am impressed with the knowledge, advice and most of all, friendliness of ALL the people on here. You guys really are the best and I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for being such nice guys and generally all round 'good eggs'
Its Monday. My Merc has a cracked cylinder head. My new spectacles have failed to arrive. My ex wife wants to move to Scotland and take the kids with her. But I look at my sub, come to this forum and the world seems a better place.
THANK YOU!

Yep. Could not agree more. This place is a great place to unwind and hang out with great people and talk about what we have in common. ROLEX! Other topics come up where I find a common bond with members here as well. More so though you guys and gals have shown lots of class with newbies and people who ask questions.

In fact I think in the last week or two the topic of "scratches on my new Rolex." has come up three or more times. Each time everybody chimes in with patience and peace. Even though they may have just answered that same question.

You all seem to be such great folks. I really would love to share a glass (or two) of good Scotch with ya!

A get together to put faces with names would be a blast. Especially in Vegas as its AD heaven there. We could actually be in the ADs with a drink in our hand and drool at all the lovely sales staff... and Rolex. I really think we should make this happen!

Gonna look you up too Davinci if I ever make my dream trip back to my birthplace of Suffolk!

Well thank you kind sir yes we do try and help if we can and like you say quite a vast knowledge of Rolex and many other subjects on forum. We like to keep forum running on a friendly informative nature to all members, but its the members that make a forum. And on TRF we have a great bunch of very helpful guys. Now this forum just two years ago consisted of around 45 members, and now well over 5000 registered members. So we must be doing something right, and I salute all members plus the admin team who have stuck with TRF to make it the IMO best forum on the world wide net.

Thanks for the kind words, davinci.

Yes, this forum has grown from strength to strength.

When I signed up in May 2005, we had less members than we could count on all our fingers and toes!!

Today, we have a very large number of guys who have just lurked in the past and then decided to sign up after seeing the friendliness that abounds on this great place.

It's the members that make up the forum.....and the wealth of knowledge that's so willingly shared.

Cheers - JJ

I don't know about the merc forum baxta, but I joined the boxster forum in jan, when i got my first porsche. that is exactly as you describe the merc forum.

i've given up posting on it and just have a look now and again in case there's something interesting on there.

to begin with I thought it was me, but soon realised it was not a public forum but a close knot society where new people are tolerated and not welcomed into the fold.

I feel much more comfortable here, i think ove thing that helps a lot is the international nature of the forum, whereas the uk boxster forum members are from the uk and as much as i hate to say it, slightly xenophobic in their views

45 members to 5000 in two years is quite a feat.....it is all down to the way that the members treat each other....with dignity and patience ! (and a lot of p!ss taking too )
If you look at the member list there are many many members who have never posted yet....like most forum newbies I guess they are lurking for a few months first to gauge the friendlyness of the other members.
My advice......jump in with both feet guys ! You will find a happy home here

The davinci theory has proven once and for all that poorer people (I only drive a Ford Focus) make better friends/forumers.

Oh, I'm just speaking for myself.

I agree

I don't even own a Rolex (yet) and have only joined this forum several days ago. Yet even my uneducated questions were treated with kindness. This forum has class - a rare thing these days, I sometimes think.

This thread reminds me of an old Groucho Marx line:

"I don't care to belong to a club that accepts people like me as members."

Just kidding, obviously. This website has some of the most friendly and well informed members on the 'net.

Where do I sign up....I can stick my nose in the air with the best of them.

I even learned to stick my pinky finger in the air whilst sipping tea at a very young age !

Maybe they could use a bit of shaking up over there.

There is still a big class divide in this country and it is not necessarily based on wealth, it is based on attitude. Although money does have a contributing factor, the forum i mentioned does not indicate you financial situation, but people look at your car and if it is not to the same spec as theirs or better, you are somehow a lesser person. Unlike on here where you have some guys with numerous expensive time pieces in varying precious metals, but there is no snobbery, however on that particular forum a guy with say a 500slk amg fully loaded, a porsche for a sunday runabout and a Bentley GT for special occassions takes one look at muy sorry old e class and thinks 'scumbag' That is how shallow people are over here. Sad but true. Lots of people are nowmoving abroad because this country is going downhill fast......especially with all the immigrants coming in.

We join groups like this for enjoyment, friends and knowledge. Well, at least I do.

There's too much strife and dissension in every day life without looking for more.

I have found this forum and it's members to be quite friendly and knowledgeable. I enjoy my time spent here and it's a great pleasure to find others with common interests.

You are absolutely spot on there. I have never met such a bunch of stuck up people than us Brits. They look down at you if you're not wearing the right clothes or as you say drive the right car. It's no wonder people in the UK are in so much debt, just trying to keep up with each other. I make people laugh when I'm home because the two cars I use are both ancient. My main car is a 1984 Audi Coupe GT and the second car is a 1976 Ford Capri 1600 GL. If and when I have to buy new it will probably be a Volkswagen Passat when I could afford any car I wanted.

Anyway back to the forum. It was an empty shell when a bunch of us were ousted from another forum and had nowhere to go. This was the ideal place as it was setup and hardly used. It was founded by friends and has kept that friendly approach which I believe is it's strength.

I joined this forum a few months ago; great information, friendly people who are willing to assist others and very enjoyable to monitor and participate.

I beleive we all have a common bond with regard to Rolex; and this is the place.

Just my two cents!

I must say that in England (where I have lived) there is little to no social-mobility. If your parents are thick - chances are you'll stay in the "comp'" (State school for you Yanks) and get a bad job etc.. If your parents are bright even if you yourself aren't you will have much better chances in life in terms of schooling and the class of people you grow up with. JMO

Class system in the UK.Very true.Even in sport.Lower classes play soccer, higher classes play rugby.See the crowds at Anfield vs Twickenham.Very different.
