Thinking of trading in my Shadow Phantom for this...

What do you guys think? Mistake? Should I keep the Phantom, or move up to this bad boy? I've riden a Gold Wing before, and it's real nice, but I think what you gain in cruising comfort, you lose in agility.

That's a gorgeous bike, I don't know why you'd consider the "upgrade."

Is that a bike or a caravan with some wheels missing ? Prefer the look of your shadow . Forget comfort and agility all together and get a Harley .

I don't know much about motorcycles, but I say stay with the Phantom. The other one looks much too cumbersome to be any fun.

It is indeed a heavy bike (820 lbs I think), but handles very nice. Not sure I would want to lean it like I do the Phantom though. On a related issue, if I were to lay it down, I probably wouldn't be able to pick it back up!

I would trade in a heartbeat Mouthwash.

What's the point of having a Harley look alike, might as well ride in style.

Hi Mark, keep your phantom, that looks cool.

Us brits don't really understand you guys addiction to these big bikes. Especially that Goldwing, it's so big, you might as well get a convertible car.

Got my DAS(unrestricted motorbike license) at the end of this month.

Like the Phantom better, the Gold wing looks more like a small car imo.

Hey ! I have a Harley.....Roadking with a 103" screaming eagle engine that makes 120 HP with the cams and ported/polished heads and 8 hours on the dyno. It pulls like a sport bike but is all so comfy for a 300 mile breakfast ride.

The Gold Wing rides much better than the looks would suggest and it will outcorner the Shadow any day. I know... it sure does not look like it from the appearance of the bike but it is true.
On a different note, should you feel really brave one day, the big Gold Wing will also do a wheelie lol. Not easily, but I have seen it done.

I'd have the Gold Wing over the Shadow in a heart beat, but that's just me.

Chip, you're right in that if you strip away all the "extras" on the Gold Wing, you're left with a basic bike, but not sure it would handle any better than the Phantom. More than likely it would handle about the same IMHO.

A fellow with a sport bike challenged me and my Gold wing to a drag race the other day. I told him I would accept his challenge if he would accept mine, a 600 mile ride. He wasn't interested. The choice of bike depends on what you want to do with it.It may not be cool but my Goldwing and I have made some multi thousand mile trips in comfort and with no mechanical problems.

I think it's a cool bike! I think it would be a great bike for going back and forth from Dallas to Houston, plus taking trips with a pillion rider. Last time I rode one, I had to keep slowing down because it was SOOO easy to speed! You don't realize how fast you are going on a Gold Wing because they are so smooth.

10-4 on losing track of your speed. I took a nephew on his first motorcycle ride earlier this summer, just riding along and enjoying the day, and he pointed out to me that we were going 90 mph.
I found out in western Nebraska that the cruise control won't set over 100 mph.
It'd be perfect for Dallas to Houston.
As for a passenger, Trophy Wife has come to falling asleep on the back.
I've got a convertible and a car with T-tops and this is way more fun.

Hey Mark. My preference would definitely be to stick with the Phantom. Very cool and mean with it.

The Gold Wing looks like a mid-life crisis and something you would buy when you retire to tour the country with your better half on the back trying to recapture your lost youth.....

Only joking of course..... Well a bit...... But you know what I mean........
