Feeling "nutty" 16570 Incoming
It’s been an interesting 2 months as I’ve searched for my first mechanical watch. I finally just got “nutty” and jumped in with 2 feet (bars?). Funny enough, we started at a Breguet boutique on a whim and were shown a $25k piece my girlfriend spotted. After that “surprise” I went into research mode, which brought me to TRF. Being an engineer I really needed to understand what I was getting myself into.
I started looking at the Omega Speedmaster and its interesting hesalite crystal. Then I was drawn in by the IWC Chronograph’s stunning looks, proportions and leather strap. Panerai affection was quick to follow with the 210 simplicity and elegance. The GMT complication intrigued me as I never can keep track of the timezone my significant other has flown off to for business. I’ve been bouncing all around and have found some amazing watches and interesting opinions on this forum, which have all been of tremendous help. This week I decided that I didn’t want to miss out on the chance to own a new 16570 Exp II since it soon will be unavailable at the ADs. I honestly never thought I’d be at the Rolex counter contemplating this purchase. I had determined that I wanted a black face with a 3186 movement and all the protective stickers in place if I was going to do this right. What was really great is that this AD had a polar without an engraved rehaut and a black with the engraving. I did the jump hour test that I learned here on TRF and showed the sales person that the two watches had slightly different movements. It felt great knowing exactly what I was looking at and being able to confirm it on the spot. The real winner for me in this choice is that I can wear this watch doing anything and not worry about it. It will look appropriate at work or at a picnic. I have all the functions that I want; auto, date and GMT. It’s also understated enough to impress those in the know but fly under the radar of those that don’t. I was surprised to find my watch to be a G series and have the 3186. I was also surprised how many dealers had Exp IIs with 3185 and no engraved rehauts. The sales person encouraged me to wear my new watch out and all day I’ve found it to be extremely comfortably. Thanks again TRF! |

Congratulations. That's the only watch you'll ever need, but stick around here and it won't be the only one you ever want!

The black dial Exp2 is one of the most disregarded sport rolex, making it rarer than the Subs, GMTs or Exps and white Exp2s.
It is also very discrete and not too noticeable. Love mine Congrats on your beauty. Pierre |
