A Crown for Every Achievement
The Rolex Motto "A Crown for Every Achievement":
So what is one of the achievements in your life (Career, family, coming through a hardship, education, etc...) and what "Crown" (Rolex Watch) do you wear to remember it? |

Picked up mine on our "2nd" honeymoon trip. We were married on the ship Grand Princess in Apr/03 by Captain Giuseppe Romano (under Bermudan law), with the whole wedding party of 8. Location was just off the eastern coast of Cuba.
So in Sept/03, we went on a honeymoon cruise (same ship, different itinerary) and I/We bought my GMTII.

That's an interesting topic!
My SeaDweller is basically to reward myself having spent through 30+ years of my life being who I am and striving hard for what I believe in, though most of the time not recognized. So it's not for 1 particular event that I have achieved. Just figured now is the time to reward myself. Not now, then when? PLus, I'm anal natured. |

Making Chief in the US Navy last year, that would be my crowning achievement!

In 2004 the "Big Blue" bumped my little company out of a contract we had with a certain government dept.
I was offered a few pounds to jump ship with my knowledge and tasked to build a new "core system". I refused out of principle and the last I heard they had still not fully implemented the new system and were quite big numbers over budget. In hindsight it is the best thing that could have happened since I now have time to spend with my family and newfound love of watches. I celebrated my freedom by purchasing my TT WF Turnograph but I flipped it after five months (too small) so no sentimentality for me.

I bought my Rollie as a birthday present to myself this year, but it means MUCH more than that to me. It represents accomplishing something that I've desired as long as I remember, and finally having my efforts blessed to the level where I could have it. I truly want to have this watch forever.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like some great reasons to get a Rolex!
Woody, congrads on making Cheif!!!! Well, as for me, bought my new TT GMT II, kind of as a reward to myself for being offered and starting a new job in Afghansitan as a Project Manager for Force Protection Security Project. One of the USMC staff level officers I work with has a Sub LV his wife got him as a going away present for deploying to Afghanistan. In Iraq, one of my good friends and team mates, had Submariner, he bought prior to a deployment to Laos, for MIA recovery operations. Then there were three guys I worked with in IRaq, who all took R&R to Dubai, and all 3 of them went to an AD and all bought GMT IIs to signify their freindship and the hardships they went through doing Mobile Security Work the previous 6 months in Iraq (bet they made that AD's day!) I think overall having a Rolex can signify many things for ones self. It is nice to have a watch to remember a milestone or accomplishment! |

My first Rolex was a TT Slate dial DateJust, and it was a graduation gift from my parents when I finished my doctorate. I bought my SD simply because I figured they weren't going to get any cheaper - besides, buying a Rollie is an occasion in itself.

I wrestled with whether or not to share this story. I respect and appreciate the knoweldge and expertise on this forum when it comes to Rolex and decided to go ahead.
The Rolex that I will wear forever is one I have yet to purchase. Hopefully, I will purchase it on 9/15/2007 from an AD - here's why - On my sons 7th birthday, I gave him a watch. He was so excited to have this piece of "grown up" jewelery - it turned him into an instant WIS. LOL Over the years, watches were one of the things that we shared and bonded us together. We decided (probably at my coaxing) that "one of these days" when we could afford it, we'd both have TT Subs. Unfortunately, I lost my son to a horrible car accident when he was 17. I won't go into the details, but it was obviously the worst time of my life. After about 3 years living in a "fog", I took on a charity motorcycle ride for the Make A Wish Foundation and rode solo from Florida to Chicago, then to L.A., then back to Florida raising money. The ride gave me a chance to regain my "focus". Well, my son's birthday is coming up - 9/15/2007 and I've decided to try to get the money together in time to purchase a TT Sub... that will be my achievement and a watch that will never be for sale. I didn't want to upset anyone with this, but thanks for allowing me to share. Bob |

Been there many times. Always stopped at that little Ice Cream Shop on the North side, along the highway! Was the highlight of the trip from Lafayette, to Grandmas in Mishawaka when I was a youngster.

The name of it is Char-Bett - it's still there, and still one of the "must stops" whenever I get back home. Plan to be up there in a couple of weeks and can't wait!!

Bob, I'm sorry to hear about your son, and I'll second Chad in thanking you for sharing it with us. That TT Sub would be a great tribute to your son and easily the most significant watch you'll ever have.

Bob,
Thanks for sharing such a personal story. No question your son would want you to be happy. Material things mean nothing compared to family and friends. Anything that connects the memory of a loved one and brings them closer in your life is worth it's weight in gold [or ss and gold]. Looking down at your wrist, knowing your son would be proud, having his memory closeby, make such a purchase mean so much more. All the best, dP

Thanks everyone... I didn't mean to be a post killer.
Believe me, when I achieve this (I've already started selling stuff off to raise the funds) I will post a pic of the TT Sub.... and a pic of my boy. You guys are great - I appreciate the warm thoughts and support!! Bob |

Char-Bett, yeah that was the name!! Always liked going through there in JR High and HIgh School as well, they used to have the prettiest girls there. Have not been there in many years. We used to stop on the south side of town as well, at the old Root Beer drive in. I remember getting these gigantic tenderloin sandwiches!
