Oyster vs Turtle
Yesterday I waxed two Toyota 4 Runners. Used Turtle wax. Great job. They are our work cars so I could not farm out that job. Anyway when I was done I noticed that my Rolex was covered in Turtle Wax!
So now here I am wondering how the watch will fare. I mean it is waterproof so it ought to be gel-proof. It took a while to polish the watch, and it is all metal except for the crystal. Turtle was is not good on rubber or plastic. It tends to turn that stuff white. Well I polished and rinsed and I think I am okay. Every now and then I find a tiny piece of the dried wax poking its way out of the GMT ring. What next? Am I going to have problems? (And no the watch is not running slower) |

No, will not cause you any problem. It is just wax. After a while should works its way out of the bracelet and/or bezel. You could also run hot water over the watch and that should melt the wax and wash it out as well.
Astcell, BTW, I a have a 4runner here in the Stan, for work as well! Pretty reliable SUVs. |

It may say wax, but a very small percentage (perhaps 5-10%) of what's in that product is actual wax, carnauba or otherwise. What is drying white is not wax, but cleaners and other petrochemicals.
It is best to use products like Zymol that are purer mixtures (37% carnauba and more) which use no abrasives. They are priced from around $50 to several thousand for a blend. And they don't work for a year like Turtle wax claims. Good organic waxes last only a few months in normal conditions. |
