Hi, I need to get two of my non Rolex vintage watches (total cost USD11.5k) to be sent to be serviced to the US from Australia. What's the best way to do so and what are my insurance options? Any tips much appreciated.

Find someone flying to US and have them sent by FedEx or DHL to the service company. Arrange them to be sent to some one else when the service is complete to carry back for you. I live in Russia and frequently use "mules".

I agree, I had an issue with customs were they held my watch for 12 weeks... I do agree its better to fly it there, then send it. Very risky!

Out of interest, is there nobody in Oz to do these? I thought there was a few around that did vintage watches.

@Brisman: There surely possibly are good guys locally but I have heard great reviews about the repairer in the US that am planning to send to especially as is the first service on these watches since being in my pocession. The next service might well be local.

PS: please excuse those multiple edits, kept submitting on my iPhone because the connection seemed to hang but got published anyway, damn mobile connnection.

I sent a box of personal effects from Iraq to the US through DHL. Mine took four days, a friends took five. CBF Form 3299 is for free entry, I'm just not sure if it would help. If I was un the US, sending somethign out of the country from repair and it was coming back, this form would definately work.

Since the watches aren't coming to the states to be sold, they should be elligible for free entry, and the only thing that would need to be declared is the cost of the repairs (possibly), but I'm not sure what forms would attack that issue. Either way DHL was quick.
