salvaged submariner story
many years ago i was just finishing second deep dive of the day (about 35m i think), after a safety stop i surfaced to the ladder to find one of the other divers in total panic...
He, d been mucking about on the boat and had dived in off the back of the only to surface minus his stainless steel sub mariner. The boat was anchored on a pinnacle and all around was deep 40+ m. After instructing someone to throw a weighted bouy off the back, roughly where the y thought it might be ,i agreed to go down and have a look. I was pretty low on air but i was the only diver that day with a computer(it was about 15 yrs ago) I dropped down to bottom , about 40m with about 2m viz, i had about 2 or 3 mins bottom time, and swam in a circle abut the line when in cam e to view the watch with a busted strap. After a slow ascent the first thing to braek the surface was my right hand holding the watch to one very happy guy. That night i was treated to a bottle of whisky and many beers(dont think i bought one) and next had a massive hang over. FAIR DEAL OR NOT ????????? COMMENTS PLEASEE oh heres a picture as well Last edited by givenup; 18 September 2007 at 04:16 AM.. |

NOT FAIR. "Whiskey" should be spelled with an "e" to make it fair.

Awesome story!
You must have been the hero of the day! You staked your life to get him his Rolex back. Maybe not "wise", but truly a great gesture!

Absolutely a fair deal, and good on 'ya mate for doing it.
Virtue may be its own reward but beer and whiskey taste a lot better! Great story.

Adjudicated...............
Considering that you could have been arrested and charged for abandoning a SS SUBMARINER...........I think you got more than fair compensation.

What a top story! And with accompanying pic! Awesome work - but did you have to do a deco stop after retrieving the sub?
