Mixed emotions
OK, so I recently bought a new Z non-date sub. I love it but I am having mixed emotions over the newer M model. I think I still prefer the cleaner dial but.......I kinda feel like my new sub is outdated now. I find myself wishing I waited a couple of weeks for the new 14060M with the RRR on the chapter ring and the busier dial. Why oh why do I feel this way, is it just the hype over something new????? Truthfully, I find myself wanting to go back to my AD and see if I could exchange for a M. At the time of purchase they didn't have any non-date subs that were M's but I know they were getting them soon, I couldn't wait, I had to have it now.......stupid AD's and their perfect, beautiful watches that they force you to put on which makes you buy one. Am I totally off base to feel this way or what, what is my problem, is this normal???? What do ya'll think, I absolutly love my sub. and wouldn't care if the new models were the same it's just that they changed and it makes me wonder if I like it more.

If you do love your sub then it is just the hype. If you didn't love your sub i believe that you would have flipped it allready. If i where you i would not flip the sub. Men your watch is amazing why should you flip it? From what you are saying sound satisfied. I believe that your emotions are mixed because of the hype. Give some time to yourself and you will find out that your sub is great. You will see my friend time will tell : thumbsup:

Did not even know the engraved chapter was available on ND sub. If they really are don't even worry about you can hardly even see it. It does not show as much as it does in pictures....it's very low key.

It's hype, and an irritation of mine with some of the younger Rolex buyers.. More is not necessarily better; the latest or newest, isn't necessarily best..
The clean dial and minimal writing is exactly the way all classic, icon Submariners have looked and should look.. You have a last of it's kind..kind of like having the last Bentley to roll off the Rolls Royce assembly lines. Besides, what are you looking at that stuff for, you're supposed to be looking at the time... (Please read this rhetoric with a calm, gentle pleasing voice and a nice smile) heres one of mikes 5513's I stole: Any Questions...... |

Trevor, I'm of two minds here. The Z series you have takes a back set to none. Indeed it's as close to the great 5513 as is possible, and in my view the last of a breed with it's lug hole case.
If it were not for the RRR on the chapter ring and the addition of 2 lines on the dial there would be nothing to separate the two. Secondly, from an accuracy standpoint your watch is as capable of delivering the same accuracy as any COSC piece, heck if not better! Many report timing that is amazing!! Having said that, (and here is where I put my nomex suit on). The COSC 14060M right now might be an interesting piece to get. IF Rolex upgrades the Sub. line, it could be a watch that has a very short production run compared to other references. That could lead to interesting things down the road. I'm certainly not saying it's the next grail, but collectors love what they can't find. LOL! |

Your Z Series Sub is a real classic. Be happy with it and wear it with pride. I sold mine and regretted it.

You have a bad case of Rolex fever !!!!! You have been lucky enough to choose a simply fantastic first Rolex. Live with it and love it for a couple of years before you decide to trade it for another. I wouldnt trade my 14060M for all the world.....its what I believe a Rolex watch is all about....elegant,simple,robust and just beautiful |

The thing is I am still under my 30 day return policy, so that makes me think of trading it in for the new M series. I actually called to chat with the dude who sold it to me but he wasn't their today. I asked if they had any new non-date subs with the COSC and the RRR and they said that they didn't think they were going to be out till next year. I said that's funny because I've seen some around "forums" that were just purchased. Anyway, they are going to investigate and give me a call back when they know whats up. I am vey pleased with my latest purchase but I'm curious.....

Stick with the one you have.
Rolex changes things all the time. I don't think of the changes as "better", simply "different". I quite happily got my Pepsi GMT, and seeing it discontinued makes it even more special to me. I plan on adding the ND sub to my collection in the next for, but I really only want the model you have! It's a classic. Be assured you made the right choice when you selected it.

i agree to stick with the one you have for awhile, and be patient with yourself. i've had rolexes(and lots of other watches) for a long time before I joined this forum. This forum is a great place to learn(I've already learned a lot in just two months). One unintended side effect, however, is that you get exposed to the 'latest and greatest'. everything looks newer and better....but as somebody on the Rolling Stones once wrote(Jagger?):
you can't always get what you want, but if you wait sometimes, you might just find, you get what you need. looks like to me you've got 'watch fever' let it run its course for a few weeks; if you can't stand it go get the new one...or you might just find another model in several months to buy, and then you'll have TWO rolexes to slobber over every breakfast....best |
