Leather or Steel ?
Some of us are purists.. But throughout its history, Rolex has provided their products in Leather, Stainless, and solid Gold..
Which do you prefer ? |

Well, those two pics say it all and leather has its place but I don't think it can compare.

I've always leaned toward a leather strap in any watch because I like the look, but they do get kind of icky over time - sweat, dirt, other assorted stuff... metal is easier to keep clean.

Steel and gold are great, both alone or combined. I don't like leather for a watch band...it gets nasty and it doesn't hold up over the long haul very well.

The question is like asking if I prefer blondes, brunettes, or redheads. But if forced to state my preferences, I'd pick an alligator leather strap on a rose or yellow gold case for dress purposes and a stainless or TT bracelet for sportier wear.
Oh yea, I prefer redheads, and yes, my wife is one. |

a brown strap a black strap a SS a TT a solid gold watch In this respect, I would definitely like to see more leather straps from Rolex... especially for the sub. |

I'm with frank--I want to have a little bit of everything, so at least one or two on croc straps for formal dress.
And, I'm with dave--redheads, blondes, and brunettes each have their place. Either way, it's too hard to pick just one. |

Solid WG, plat & leather then steel last, never two tone or yellow gold. Thus I have several WG and a few watches on strap.

For me, metal on a sports watch and leather on a dress watch.

No offence but, I don't like straps on any watch. IMO, it looks totaly out of place on that sub, (who would dive with,....or want a dive watch with a leather strap?) it may be ok on a dress watch, but not for me. I'll put my money in precious metals.

SS for daily wear.
However, for a dressier look, nothing beats an understated solid SS or WG case on a black croc strap. A must for poking out of the arm of a power suit, tux, or a french cuff shirt. Of course a nice all-metal DJ does the trick as well...it's all subjective. I'm not much on gold, though. |

Definitely prefer steel. I haven't worn a leather watch for over 20 years now.
I use to hate the twin colour bracelets but I have recently changed my mind and would like one sometime. I will never be able to afford another Rolex unfortunately. |

I prefer SS on my sport watches. Of course there are exceptions to every rule. The exception:
And there's this exception: There is something nice about black leather or Croc on dress watches. 1983 TT DJ with original black leather. Shows little signs of wear. And my JLC Master Geographic on black leather:
