My dad has just given me his rolex its a Rolex Date Just brought in 1988. Now as you can see there are some scratched on the cyclops and well the glass is not scratch Resistance like my Tag.

My parents are going to HK in December and well I'm looking at getting it serviced as it needs one badly still works fine as we speak.

Does anyone know how much it cost to get it serviced there ? whats involved besides a bit of grease and oil up and polish. Do they replace the cyclops or buff out the scratches ?? or can they ?

Having said that I want to update the dial to the black face like the picture below is that possible with the model ???.
Can I change the glass to a non scratch Resistance one?

Anyone have and idea of cost.

Basically I wanna update the whole watch

Do all rolex the glass sticks out a couple of mm fromt the bezel ???

Ben,
The RSC will take your watch completely apart and rebuild it like new.. They will replace the crystal....

You probably can get the dial replaced, but that will drive up the cost.. They will also refinish the case and bracelet.

That service will cost you ~500 bucks in the US, I understand it is cheaper in Hong Kong..

You can get a new black dial on your watch, but not with the roman numerals, it will be the sticks like you have. (approx. $200, I believe)
The crystal will be replaced with a service with the same acrylic, and they will not replace it to a sapphire. But if you get scratches later on you can have them buffed out at an AD.
They're most likely going to change out the hands as well, since yours are corroded, and the luminous is completely discolored, so that means it's dried out, and becomes a risk to fall out.

Congratulations on your "new" time piece though, and wear it proudly!

Congrats and welcome.

You may not need to get it serviced in HK, depending on how long your parents will be there for. Generally a service takes about 2 weeks.

In Australia you can get any AD to send it to the RSC in Melbourne to do the job, or you could go there yourself!!

Well they are taking a trip there so might as well, plus if possible change the dials .......just have to wait and see
