Vintage 1971 18K Rolex Cellini Chocolate Face

Purchased at the same time as the gold banded Cellini. I've never seen the chocolate face on another Cellini.

I was surprised that I only had 1 comment posted and over 100 views to the post I made last week with my 1971 Vintage Cellini 18K Chocolate face dress watch.

I don't know why this series of watches hasn't drawn a following. The similar styles of ultra thin dress watches in the Patek family seem to be very popular and are valued at 2 to 3 x more money.

I also find it interesting the lack of interest in the Cellinis. I purchased a Daytona 6263 black red Daytona for $650 in 1977. Needed a part for it and started to look for the part about a month ago. Parts hard to find, but I got it fixed, and am selling it for upper $20K.

On the other hand, 4 years later, i purchased a solid 18K gold 4112 for around $2100. At the time i thought it was a better purchase than the Daytona. Looking at the prices for this watch now, about what i paid for it, maybe a bit more. The day I purchased the Cellini, I looked at a Patek Phillippe for $2500. I was happy with my Daytona, so I purchased the Cellini. (should have purchased the Patek Phillippe for $400 more at the time, now worth $25000).

I have worn and used both watches constantly for 35 years, but really now. I can't understand why the Cellini has not increased in value. The Cellini Rolex never caught on. Amazing.

Do any of the watchmaker members of this forum know of any "fatal flaw" in the Cellini?

My Cellini has required only minor service over a 30 year period.

I love the Cellinis - mens and womens - but I think and this is my opinion that all the vintage Cellini men's watches are like "jewelry" or like the women's "jewelry" type watches as opposed to the Chronometers, Subs, GMTS, etc. which are watchy-watches.

The Cellinis tend to have lots of gold, colored faces, fancy dials and higher price tags.

I love the Cellini Midas - both the King and Queen which are a lot of solid gold - over 60 grams.

I do have a lot of the "Precision" watches and one Oyster Bubbleback. But, I don't have a Cellini yet.

The chocolate face and watchband are amazing.
