If you had $100K left over which 6 (4) watches would you buy?

Ok, let´s say you have $100K to spend on 6 or 4 watches, which watches would you buy?

you can decide between new or used watches, and have to set a realistic price on them yourself. Retail list price or something that might be found in the "sell"-section of the forums etc.

(Yes, I am a bit bored today, that´s why I have been on the forum all day)

Even though (as stated in my other thread today) I would have to compromise with every watch.

I would choose:

JLC Reverso 976 18k Used 12500
Rolex DJ 116233 Used 7500
Rolex Daytona 116505 Used 25000
Rolex GMT II-c Used 6500
Rolex Sub-c Used 6700
Patek 5146 Used 35000

Total 93200

AP RO £8k
Nautilus £25k
Patek calatrava £20k
Richard Mille £25k
JLC dress watch in rose gold with the left over.

1. AP ROO Panda
2. JLC Duometre (WG)
3. Patek Nautilus Chrono
4. VC Overseas Chrono (RG)

1 and 3 on steel bracelets. 2 and 4 on leather straps. I think that takes care of the 100K. ;)

Assuming TRF prices for used pieces.

1. Meteorite Daytona ($25k)
2. WG Sub ($25k)
3. JLC Ultra Thin Moon 39 ($6k)
4. PAM 317 ($29k)
5. Explorer II 216570 ($6k)
6. Decent condition birth year 5513 Sub ($9k?)

Ask my again tomorrow, and the list will be entirely different, but the JLC will still be on it. Most likely the Panerai and Explorer will be replaced by a white RO.

I would buy new....grey mkt./trusted TRF sellers......
1. 116610=$7464.
2. YG daytona 116518PNBK=$18,852.
3. YG daytona 116518PNBR=$18,852.
4. Oyster perpetual no-date/36mm=$4336.
(prices averaged from 2-3 grey mkt./TRF sellers etc.)
not quite 50 grand.......the rest I'd spend on wine, women, weed & song.

How can you get a JLC Ultra Thin Moon for 6K I thought retail was $9450?

Please note the disclaimer "TRF prices for used pieces". They're available at gray dealers for $7.5k, and there was actually a price drop in the retail price recently. By the time they start hitting the market used I expect the price to be 6k.

Hey ArcticMoose, where can you find the recent price drops? The JLC website still has it at $9450 and on luxury bazaar they have a price increase of $10,120 I'm also looking to acquire the moon 39

The price has been over 70k SEK at NK in Gothenburg since it was introduced. if I recall correctly it was about 72k, i.e. about $10k+ including tax.
http://www.nk.se/en/nk-gothenburg/av...ar/NK-Details/

I checked today and it was priced at about 68k, i.e. about $9500 including tax, and the sales guy was quick to point out both that the price had dropped and that the price was negotiable.

Now that I think about it, the price drop could have been the result of currency fluctuation, I didn't think to ask about any other watch.

Too many watches and variations to choose from. However right now a pre-owned JLC Minute repeater would be nice for 100k.

One and done: Lange Sohne Platinum Double Split

Ps. I would also take a WG Zeitwerk and save the rest of the cash for the next purchase!

Bingo. If I have $100k I'm not buying multiples. I'd be one and done. Go big or go home. Why buy a lot of avg watches that really aren't that special or rare when you could buy a very nice rare peice.

I take it every time you add a bit of cash to your watch budget you flip the watch you currently have and buy a more special and rare one?

If not, I don't see the difference between getting watches you like one by one over time and buying several at once.

(This is not a hypothetical question at all, I have spent enough to get a WG Sub for four watches in one deal once, and never regretted it. I still prefer to have those four over the Sub.)

It's out of this price range but I like the Patek Moonphase. $750,000 according to the news report when Charle Sheen lost his.

When I googled for a 5131j I found an ad in Canada for one sealed asking 79K. Unfortunately the ad was from April 2011 so you and I are a year late. I hope you beat me to this one. My bank account will gladly thank you :)

With a $100,000

Realistically, I would buy 2 watches. I don't need a $100,000 watch.

I would get a 16610 of course.

And a 16710 Pepsi, with the Oysterlock bracelet, and buy a jubilee for it too!

But then knowing me, I'd end up having a collection of Submariners.

I wouldn't mind any of these...

16800 Matte Dial:

1680 RED:

5513 on Nato:

1675 GMT Pepsi:

** Would like the 5513 & 1675 to have some nice patina!

If I had to purchase 4..

DRSD
5508
1016
1019

That should fit the bill.

But if I were handed 100K to spend on watches, I would track down a 6541

I'm assuming 75% of list prices:

1) A. Lange & Sohne Zeitwerk (WG / Black / Leather) --> $46,275
2) Patek Philippe 5205G-001 --> $37,125
3) Glashutte Senator Meissen --> $15,600
4) With $1000 left over... A Swatch $79.99, or if I can find one at less than $1000 a Seiko Astron.

If I couldn't get 75% of list, and would need a few thousand more, I would sacrifice the Glashutte and get something else that is cheaper (a second Swatch if necessary...).

Good luck finding a WG Zeitwerk for full retail let alone for discount! Not happening as they are next to impossible to find--trust me on that. They are selling above retail in grey market as well again if one can find one.

It's a fantasy thread!

In any case, I suppose if I run into this situation in the real world then I would only be getting the first two on my list and two swatches at a yard sale.
