What Does "Hack Function " Mean ?

I read about this for oyster perpetual dates that there is a way to change the date without having to keep setting the time to do it , is this true ?

"Hacking" is an old military term for the SECOND'S hand being able to be STOPPED via the winding crown to syncronise timing.

But changing the DATE via the crown "in an instant" is called "Quickset"

In movies I always loved how the military said "Let's synchronize watches" and then they all fiddled. I thought they all went to 12:00:00 because they never said anything.

Then in a few where they did say, "Okay...MARK" they did it in like 3 seconds, as if they synced the second hands that fast.

push the crown back in one click from fully out, and wind the crown to change the date (the second hand should still be moving)

Alex, the really old Date and Datejust models don't have a hack feature. So, Rolex actually recommended 'hacking' the second hand by turning the crown backwards in a pulsating fashion (retarding) to temporarily retard the sweep hand. The 'middle' generation of those movements had the hack feature whereby when the crown/stem was fully pulled out, the second hand stopped and the hands could be set...and this was also how the date was set...spinning the hands round and round until the proper date was showing in the window.

The newer and current generation of these dated movement have both hack and quickset...quickset is the first stop in pulling out the crown/stem and it allows for quickly spinning around the date wheel. The final and second stop hacks the second hand.

Remembering your pics of your Date model, I believe it has the hack feature, but not the quickset, so if that's the case, you're stuck with spinning the hands around and around to reach the proper date setting.
