I want to buy a GMT II to wear and another watch to keep locked up to sell later. As a pure investment, which Rolex would you consider having the best future value potential? Thanks in advance for any help!

I'd go with a NOS Paul Newman 6239 Daytona. try to get a complete set. great investment piece. or maybe a Milsub. or a leopard daytona.

well you should've gone for the Exp1. That one pays a good quarterly dividend.

If you're looking for an investment, try a Patek 5070 Blue in platinum

The issue now with keeping common rolexes as a GMT Ceramic as an investment is that 40 years ago no one knew watches would be so collectible, so owners just wore there watches as any other. Now days we all see vintage and observe the nicer condition it is the more it costs, so now every Rolex owner on the forum knows to keep there watch in mint conditon, so in 40 years there will be a lot more mint GMT's on the market than there are mint 40 year old GMT's on the market currently. In conclusion, I would buy any modern Rolex as an investment IMO

As a synonym it's kind of like vintage matchbox & hot wheels cars how the vintage ones that are in there package are worth a lot, but the issue now is that every collector now knows keeps even brand new ones in there package

I want to spend between $12-15k. Maybe I should buy 2 steel watches? I plan on holding on to the watch for as long as possible, but at least 10 yrs.

If we all knew of a watch to buy and hold for good profit, we would all have one in the safe..

It's unlikely that any Rolex on the market today will return a profit in 10 years if inflation etc., is taken into account.. You may get more for it than you paid, but less than the price of a new one at that time.. It's better than cash in the safe, but not likely better than cash prudently invested.

However, my bet would be that a Milgauss may see reasonable returns in a decade..

Investing in a watch is a ridiculous gamble...especially a modern watch. Perhaps buying a mil-sub or a Comex is "safe"...but it's still a gamble.

I would purchase three or four GMT 16700's or late 1980's Submariner 16710's -complete sets, which will be worth the most in the future. You could always spend the complete $15,000 on one vintage model, as there are many to choose from.

I never buy as an investment but my timing has always been good. If you pick up a watch for next to cost and hold it for a while you will be guaranteed your money back usually. Buy an old sea dweller nos. Should see a return there IMHO

I think any rolex will go up in value because every sub from the 1680 to 16800 to even some early 16610 are selling for more then people payed 20-30-40 years ago but is it just keeping up with inflation?
Try to find a nib 16610 and put it away..
