Milgauss 116400 Observations and Pic Request

Hi guys,
I was visiting the AD over the weekend and happened to try on a watch that I have never tried on before. WOW...the Milgauss is fantastic looking in person!

The case is classic oyster, but the extra case height certainly gives it a more sporty appearance and allows it to be a watch that would look great with casual attire, as well as dressed up. I always thought the thunderbolt second hand looked a bit cartoonish in pics, but in person it looks much more subtle and gives the watch a very unique, but tasteful flair.

I did not get any pics , but I did notice two interesting things when comparing the standard Black Dial to the GV.

GV...
1. Appears slightly smaller due to the arabics on the perimeter of the dial, the orange 3/6/9 markers and subtle green halo.

2. The matte dial on the GV appears slighty semi-gloss and definitely has a different appearance when viewed through the green glass.

BLACK DIAL...
1. Appears slightly larger due to the simple/uncluttered dial and clear sapphire

2. The matte dial on this watch appears slightly crisper and has a truly flat (non-reflective) appearance to it (almost like construction paper), which I love.

I always assumed that the GV would be the one to buy, but after comparing them in person. I think I prefer the simpler, slightly larger look of the standard black. If you have never tried on a Milgauss before, I highly recommend it. It seems like a great all-around daily wearer and it may very well be next on my list:)

I would love to see some Milgauss pics if you guys have them, so feel free to post them up.

Thanks!

i said this before somewhere in the forum.

had the GV for a week and sold it. to me imo the green and the two color indices came in the way each time i look at the watch.

somehow to me the GV looks best on other wrists and on pics, but definitely not mine.

if i were to buy the MG again, definitely will go for the classic Black.

but puffy's wonderful pics of the White are distracting! lol :)

I am biased towards the white dial myself, but, any Milgauss is great

The black dial (non-GV) Milgauss is my fave

I agree that it needs to be seen on the wrist to be truly appreciated

If you want a dressier 'professional' piece and are happy without the date, then go for it

I would love the normal black dial but with the green sapphire! Make it happen, Rolex!

Agree completely. Labored over this black dial and GV for a month. When it came down to it for me, I didn't think I could pull off that green crystal, and while it is truly beautiful and a unique piece, I was just looking for something a little more subtle. I personally didn't feel I could dress up the GV as often. The lightning bolt was just enough whimsy for my taste. Still love the GV though.

:
Totally agree about the matte black dial. After 1 1/2 years I still am still mesmerized by it - slate grey, sometimes brown, and when the light hits at the right angle so that there is no reflection off the crystal, the dial looks fuzzy almost like velvet.

I love how I wear a Milgauss, rarely ppl recognize it as a Rolex. To some that might be the reason not to get one.

I was wearing my Omega Seamaster 300M Diver Chronometer Titanium for the last week and forgot to wind the watches before I took the pictures. My favorite watches, pen, cigar, on the rag top of my car.

I spent a lot of time wondering about the GV and classic black, tried them both on and the black appealed to me way more, perfect for dressier occasions and a great daily wearer. also under the radar which was exactly what i wanted.

charles....i am much like you, going back and forth between the black and the GV. there are many things i prefer on the black (cleaner dial, uniform markers, clear crystal) and for the longest time i was sure i liked the black the best, but the GV has that extra "zing" that appeals to me more these days. before i became totally enamored with the hulk, i was 100% convinced that the black was right for me. and then something strange happened as i went to try it on a few weeks back and thought "ho-hum", and that's when the GV really started to appeal to me as being a bit more "special" with the green crystal, matte dial and varied markers and lume. i guess i'm in a phase of wanting each watch on my wrist to be "unique" (as much as a rolex can be "unique", i suppose). in the end, you can't go wrong with either reference.

anders....i actually laughed when scrolling through those 1,000 pix of the milgauss. nicely done.
