How do you pay for time piece(s)? Cash or Credit

Hi All, I don't know if this question have been post before. How do you pay for your new timepiece? Do you make monthly payment or pay all in cash? Thank you

IMO if you can't afford it cash, you can't afford it. I have nothing against loans, mortgages & credit etc but only for things that will make money or generate income. Like I said, that's just my opinion.

If it's a same as cash deal, no interest etc etc, I might think about it but interest on a luxury purchase, never!!!!

My CC gets paid off monthly anyway, no matter if it's a balance of $1 or 10$k. I was raised to only buy things I can a) afford; and to use credit for b) an investment that will Net me an ROI above the interest paid.

That's my approach too.

One AD I went to offered a bigger discount if paying with cash. At another AD the discount was the same whether using cash or credit card. In the second situation I would use credit card to get reward points.

IMO the more fiscally responsible option would be to purchase in cash. That is what I do personally. However, life is short. It is your money and no one should judge or tell you how to use it. It's almost akin to the infamous rent vs. own house argument.

If you "must" have it and think it will bring joy to your life and want to pay credit, then by all means go ahead. I of all people know the intrinsic joy wearing and possessing a fine timepiece brings. Our time is short and could end at any minute.

But to put it into perspective in terms of offering (what I believe) is good advice - if it were my (non-existent) son asking me this question - I would strongly compel him to save up the cash to purchase it. A side benefit is that many times the human psyche allows us to appreciate and value things more if we have lay down some work to obtain it.

Credit so I can get the miles etc and then pay immediately. sometimes I buy watches just to flip so I can get another reward. Don't have to make $ on the flip b/c the intrinsic value of the reward is worth way more than $100 gain/loss...

If you got a big enough discount from an AD I don't see why it wouldn't work. Maybe he buys a lot of watches and gets say 20% off MSRP and then can resell them at the same price or even a little less. Most cards give at least 2% rewards, sometimes 5% or more, so I could see it working.

I'm not saying I could/would do it, but it is possible.

BTW: I used a card and pay it immediately. I do take advantage of the rewards points that way and on AMEX you are backed up in case it breaks or is lost.

Yup thats what I said. Is there something wrong with that? If the cost of an international business class ticket is 9K, and I get a companion ticket for spending XX a year, and an $8000 watch puts me over the yearly spend, why wouldn't I? The value of those two tickets if I bought them would be north of 20K and they end up costing me nothing. Totally legit and I promise you I am not the only one...

You should go over to flyertalk.com and read some of the things people do to get miles. A couple years ago, there was a wall street journal article about the latest and great fad to get miles. People were buying dollar coins from the US mint in batches of $10,000 and then depositing the $ to pay off the bill. It eventually got shut down b/c one guy bought over a million dollars in coins in a year and his bank would no longer accept them.

I have never paid for an international airline ticket. I had no idea it could/would cost you $9,000. My twin sister uses her Capital One card for everything so that she and her husband get a free ticket to Paris each year (he has family there). I guess I never thought of buying a Rolex and then flipping it for the miles. Now that you explain it, it makes sense but I would have a nervous breakdown over worrying about the flip. I buy to keep and I sell only when I want to buy something better/bigger and that's rare.
